"lost income" has got to be one of the craziest excuses in copyright issues. If I start a business called "buttwipers USA", specializing in having a butt wiper on every corner of over block in every city, can I legally prevent people from wiping their own butts after taking a shit because of "lost income" it would cause me, or demand the legal system to prevent the sell of toilet paper in local stores because it facilitates in the theft of my lost income? The idea that if I create a concept/idea/etc and convey it to someone else, that I am to be somehow endowed with limitless income as a result, and that should another person convey that thing to someone else without my knowledge or consent, I should be able to get big brother to protect me from losing that *potential* income, is just absurd to me.

The same rings true with me for HOAs. The idea that if I don't like the way something looks or that if something may cause the resell value of my home to be less, I should be able to tell someone else who has worked for their property what they can do, what color they can paint their home, what kind of grass they can have, what kind of/year cars, etc because it may affect me and cause loss of *potential* income, is just absurd IMO. (I understand that HOAs can be good for some things, but due to a risk of losing freedom over my own home, I would never buy into one).

This is all at an early stage, but even now, policing copyright is getting more and more difficult.

The internet is now so important, that it's out of control of governments. They can't close it.
The trackability will get less and less as time goes on, so there will be no prospect of enforcing rulings like this.
They might be able to inconvenience Apple, who are too big to hide, but they will be powerless against the small unimportant copiers.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

Apple's development of a cheap, reliable, and comprehensive proprietary media delivery system, tied to pretty stringent conditions and the ability to manipulate individual users' files remotely, went a long way to reducing the amount of unpaid for media on the internet and has become the aspiring standard model for music and movie downloads.

back when cassette tapes first appeared we were told recording from the radio and vinyl was illegal. we all blew a big raspberry to that and we'll blow an even bigger one to these greedy parasites.

No, it'll automatically charge your bankcard and make your music legal. :coffee:

Only if you're stupid enough to install Windoze 10 and give it your credit card information, which is an incredibly stupid thing to do.

Practical impact of this: Close to Nil. It's yet another case of the law lagging hopelessly behind the effects of rapidly evolving technology.

AFAIK, ripping/format shifting has never been legal in Ireland, but that hasn't stopped Irish people from doing what everyone else does.

When I was at school, everyone used to copy everyone else's computer games. It was very easy as most were on cassette tape. One classmate's father was a police officer, and he would use the police station photocopier to duplicate the instruction booklets for his son. As an analogy for how seriously law enforcement has historically treated breach of copyright, it cannot be beat.
