France deploys riot police to stem flow of migrants from Calais

France deployed 120 riot police to Calais on Wednesday to bolster security after thousands of migrants tried to enter Britain through the Channel Tunnel in recent days, with the resulting chaos leading to at least one death.

"This exceptional migrant situation has dramatic human consequences," French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said Wednesday. "Calais is a mirror of conflicts tearing up regions of the world."

Many of the migrants crossing through France and Britain are fleeing unrest and poverty in Africa and the Middle East. The precise number that have attempted the crossing since Monday remains unknown, but most estimates put the figure at more than 3,000.

British daily The Times reported Wednesday that up to 3,000 were involved in a closely coordinated plan to cross the English Channel into Britain on Monday night alone, far more than the 2,100 migrants police said had been removed from Eurotunnel premises that night

The paper said that more than 2,000 migrants stormed the terminal in a first wave. While police were busy escorting them off the premises, another 800 took advantage of the security vacuum in a bid to stow themselves away on trains and lorries bound for Britain.

“It was pandemonium,” the newspaper quoted a French police source as saying. “They were pouring through holes in the fences and clinging on to the Eurotunnel trains.”

(continued, any of 'em could be carrying Ebola and that's what they are really fleeing from - best medical care, free at source, in Londanistan....)

It's no mystery. Just stop illegal immigrants from working in the UK.
Cameron is just the biggest liar. He makes all the noises about stopping it, but never does the one thing that will ACTUALLY stop it, which is make sure they can't work when they get here.

The reason is obvious. They make growth in the economy, provide cheap labour, and keep house prices up.
All numbers that the dedicated Tory press can use to influence the voters, giving the illusion that the economy is doing great.
It is, for the rich, but it's doing shit for the struggling poor.

They could bring in strict laws against employers who pay for work done by illegals, either directly, or indirectly through a third party. And set up a dedicated band of enforcers, to make life hell for anyone who is tempted to break the rules.

Once the word gets out that they can't work, why would they leave France?

But of course, that won't happen, because Cameron and Osborne are lying, they LIKE all that cheap labour, and house prices and growth would drop if the illegals went home.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

They are sending in more dogs. Why don't they electrify the fence?

They are sending in sniffer dogs. I would send in attack dogs with tazers.

What needs doing is that Calais needs returning to its rightful owners - ie. us British!

Letting the bloody French run it is causing all the bother. And while we're at it, we'll have India back. And Africa. :tea:

Open a legal route for refugees to enter Britain. Less attempts at going through the Tunnel.

Germans of any religion were not popular at the time.

Isn't hindsight a wonderful thing? How is the Daily Mail in 1938 supposed to know about the future?

It's an idiotic point.

Effectively there isn't the money or resources to guard the entire Mediterranean so basically its accept and distribute the immigration from Africa between EU countries or introduce the death penalty for anyone trying to illegally enter the UK/EU

In the UK unfortunately sinking any ships/shooting the survivors would probably have popular (unlike US/Mexico you obviously can't build a wall)

And just to confirm I'm not joking you can't realistic stop the immigration through peaceful means, thats just the facts on the ground

What about releasing two dozen great white sharks into the med? Might be a deterrent?

I dunno if you've noticed, but the UK doesn't need a wall. It's got sea all around it.
It needs to police the tunnel properly, that's all.

But even better, they just need to prosecute people who pay wages to illegals.
If there were real penalties, and proper enforcement, people wouldn't want to come.
