Using bait to lure the animal off the reserves was against Zimbabwe law. As such, the authorities there have the legal provision to seek extradition and prosecute the killer.

If a large predator is trying to kill me (without deliberately provoking that situation), and I succeed in killing it, fair enough.Seth wrote:
Killing an animal to make a trophy mount is as valid a reason to kill an animal as any other reason. Masai warriors wear the pelts of big cats they personally kill, so what's different about this hunter wanting to mount the trophy? Why don't you go kill a lion with a bow (or even try to) and then tell us you don't feel the rush of facing down a predator easily capable of ripping you limb from limb before you can blink twice. Of course any hunter would want a trophy of that accomplishment, because it's quite an accomplishment.
If I am a rich American who merely wants the thrill of killing a large, endangered predator, while protected by criminal poachers with rifles at the ready, then I am a cowardly piece of scum.

I was horrified to read that the headless and skinned body was left to rot. I suppose the hyenas appreciated it. But it just seems to me that if you're going to go to all that trouble to kill a creature, then you should eat the meat. Of course, unlike the small-dicked dentist, I wouldn't want to kill such a beautiful creature in the first place. But if I did, I'd damn sure eat it.
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.
But those letters are not silent.
They're just waiting their turn.

This guy is just one of a band of pathetic wankers who call themselves hunters.
They don't hunt. They hire a local, to set up bait traps, and to guard them with big guns as they fire their hardware.
Bushmen hunt. These wankers just pay out money, and pose for a photo.
These animals are so used to humans, it's like shooting chickens in a battery cage.
It's nice that this wanker has got his comeuppance. I hope he gets extradited.

And it should be remembered that the asshole that killed Cecil has actually killed seven lions, not one. Whatever male takes over Cecil's pride is going to kill his six cubs, too.
Considering this idiot has already been done for illegal hunting before (felony, black bear, Wisconsin, killed it outside the approved hunting zone), I call bullshit on his explanation that he thought everything was "above-board".
And in any case, lions are listed as 'vulnerable' by the IUCN -- what kind of a fucking asshole do you have to be to say to yourself, "Hey, this is an endangered species, I better go kill one so I can hang its skin on my wall!"
This isn't a man hunting for food, or to take down a dangerous rogue, or even for legitimate herd maintenance. This is just a bloodthirsty fuckwit who needs to go to jail.

Without photo evidence I'd say it's likely the edible portions were cut away and eaten by someone.tattuchu wrote:I was horrified to read that the headless and skinned body was left to rot. A recent article states that the hunt may have been illegal claiming that Zimbabwe did not issue any lion-hunting quotas for that area for the time period involved. If this is the case, then the question becomes was the hunter aware of this or was he lied to by his professional hunter. One can hardly place blame on a hunter who relies on a licensed professional hunter in Africa for accurate and lawful information about the hunt. That's why those nations mandate only guided hunts. If the professional hunter lied and broke the law and did not inform the client, then the client's culpability is small. That's an issue for the finders of fact. Unfortunately it's not likely to be possible for him to get a fair or impartial trial based on the facts in Zimbabwe, being that it's run by one of the world's worst, and most racist, and most murderous dictators, who hates white people with a passion equal to that of Hitler.
That fact alone should prevent the US from extraditing him.
What should happen is that US citizens should be banned from visiting Zimbabwe for any reason and the entire nation should be embargoed until the political situation changes radically.
Mugabe has been far worse for the inhabitants of the area than the Rhodesian government ever was. He'd literally destroyed the entire country while looting it of it's wealth for his own comfort and pleasure.

Lions aren't an endangered species. "Vulnerable" is not a legal classification under CITES. As for his bear hunt, he was put on probation, paid the fine and the case was disposed of, which might explain why he bow-hunts...he may be barred from possessing firearms here in the US. Whether that bars him from possessing firearms in a foreign country I don't know.trdsf wrote:And it should be remembered that the asshole that killed Cecil has actually killed seven lions, not one. Dentists aren't an endangered species.
I recommend the death penalty. Death by arrow. Must take at least 48 hours, which is how long the lion lasted before they shot it.
Mount his stuffed head over the entrance to the park.

As long as he has his bow and arrow, as Cecil had his claws and teeth, I'm good with you giving it a bash. I put my money on the dentist.mistermack wrote:Dentists aren't an endangered species.
