And what happened? The government backed off. Thus is proven the value of an armed citizenry against government overreach and tyranny.
Trying to recoup 20 years' worth of rental arrears is overreach when the defendant refused to attend resolution in courts of law? I think Bundy left the BLM no choice other than to remove the illegally grazing cattle from the area.
That presumes that the cattle were grazing illegally, a fact which Bundy (and his supporters) dispute due to the fact that the grazing rights he holds pre-date every government regulation used against him and the regulations were being constantly changed precisely and only in order to drive Bundy out of business by restricting his ability to make a profit by deliberately and maliciously forcing him to reduce the size of his herd to such a small size that his operations, which were homestead operations, were no longer viable, which is part of the deliberate BLM and federal government eco-activist agenda of driving ALL livestock operations that have grazing rights on federal lands out of business. Bundy was (and is) the sole remaining historical livestock operation in that area. All the other operators have been deliberately put out of business using the "death of a thousand cuts" of government over-regulation, in violation of their constitutional rights to graze on federal land in perpetuity. Such grazing rights were (in this case) established long before the BLM even existed and are a legally protected property right that cannot be taken away without just compensation. The BLM knows this, so rather than paying to extinguish the rights it niggles the operator into financial ruin using any excuse it can find, from non-due rent payments to fines for made-up "violations" of regulations created to order precisely to give the BLM the ability to drive the operator into financial ruin.

Bundy does not have a leg to stand on. He's a fucking nutter. To begin with, he does not claim that he has a grazing right under the US constitution. He declares that the US government does not exist: "I believe this is a sovereign state of Nevada. I abide by all of Nevada state laws. But I don’t recognize the United States government as even existing."

Seth thinks owning slaves in perpetuity is a historical right, and the slave owners should have got compensation for the loss of their property and livelihood.

That was in fact one of the Confederacy arguments, but your insulting lie has no nexus to the truth.

Because I am unemployed until September, and receiving benefits, I was able to go and get a free eye-test today. I will be picking up two free pairs of glasses next week: one for distance, one for reading.

It is terrible to be so exploited by communists all the time in this country! :lay:

Really? I thought you only got a contribution, not free glasses. I wouldn't mind a free pair.
I get free eye checks because I have raised pressures in the eyes, a form of glaucoma that hasn't yet damaged the optic nerve, but could in the future.
I also get more accurate tests twice a year at the eye department in the local hospital, and will get an operation if the eye-drops stop effectively controlling the condition.

I can't imagine having to think, or worry about the cost, or to have to weigh up the risk against the cost, in my head, without fully understanding it all.

People in this country without pet insurance have to weigh up how much they love their pets, against the cost of veterinary treatment. That's a shitty place to be, but it pales into insignificance, when it's a person who needs treatment.

I wouldn't like it for me, and I wouldn't like it for anyone else, and I do feel sorry for Seth for being in that position. In spite of his sad bluster claiming it's all his own decision.

It's not. The options that he has available to him are out of his control. He decides not to buy health insurance, because US health insurance is such a shit option. An he's actually right about that.

I have glaucoma in the family, so I get a free, yearly eye-test anyway. But being on JSA means I get frames up to £45 free (at Specsavers) and unimproved lenses + fitting. If I want anti-glare coating, tints, varifocals, etc., I have to pay for that. And if I want more expensive frames, I get £45 off the full cost. I just went for freebies!

The distance glasses are only slightly changed from my last prescription (which have far better frames and photochromic lenses) so I will use the new pair as spares! The reading glasses are only for occasional use, so I don't give a shit what they look like.

My last pair cost me about that. They are nice though.

I don't deny that the Confederacy made that argument in objecting to the attempt to end slavery. That's a historical fact. Do I think so? Of course not.

So you pick and choose what rights should remain, and what should not.
Slavery shouldn't. Grazing should.
Once again, it's not a question of rights. It's what Seth likes that counts.

All this stuff about historical rights is your own bullshit. It's not principle, it's opportunism.
One historical right should be sacrosanct. The other? ''of course not''.
