Re: Evolution for fundamentalists
kinds not defined in Bible
I've seen Bookhitter use the word "kind" to refer to entire taxonomic families ("felines", "deer"), orders ("whales"), infraclasses ("marsupials"), classes ("birds") and even entire domains (bacteria). Apparently, it's defined on whatever is convenient this week.

Re: Evolution for fundamentalists
There are actually three classes of creationist.
[1] The uneducated simpleton who believes whatever he's told by someone in a funny hat, and has't worked out yet that the reason scientists don't take any notice of the person in the funny hat, is because the person in the funny hat is talking complete horseshit;
[2] The wannabee ideological stormtrooper, who obtains cheap thrills from posturing as being the next Kent Hovind;
[3] The duplicitous snake oil salesman, who makes a lucrative career out of lying to groups [1] and [2], but secretly, or not so secretly, doesn't want those in group [2] to challenge his particular monopoly.

Re: Evolution for fundamentalists
There's the anti-intellectual conspiracy theorist creationist as well. Funny thing is, they usually claim to be more intellectually endowed that the people they're arguing with, making everyone else wrong automatically.

Not satisfied with the lower half of your body, namely your rear end? Do you have a mild to severe deflation in this area with surrounding skin that appears loose and lax otherwise known as a "saggy butt". These days, more and more women are opting for expensive, invasive cosmetic butt enhancements to correct this situation as opposed to putting in a little hard work and dedication.

lol wrote:Sir, – The belief that we share this planet with supernatural beings is an old one. Students of magic and religion have identified innumerable varieties of them – gods, devils, pixies, fairies, you name it. A familiar motif is that they operate at the very fringes of perception. While the scullery maid sleeps, they are busy in the kitchen making the milk go sour. For a society with no concept of bacteria, this is, perhaps, a forgivable conceit. But for a modern university professor to take this idea seriously is, I think, mind-blowing.
lol lol wrote:Sir, – In a recent letter (Letters, December 4), I pointed out that natural selection is a chemical process as well as a biological process, and that it was operating for about half a billion years before the earliest cellular life forms appear in the fossil record. I also pointed out that natural selection does not require DNA; on the contrary, DNA is a product of natural selection. It appears from their recent correspondence (Letters, December 11) that neither John Walton nor Thomas Nagel is willing to assimilate these facts into their world-view. John Walton boldly asserts that the whole of prebiotic chemistry is a myth, while Thomas Nagel objects to the “tone” of my letter. But neither confronts the evidence. I believe they are in the position of someone who has attended a Uri Geller spoon-bending demonstration, and has decided that the laws of metallurgy are in urgent need of repair. The idea that they might have been duped simply hasn’t occurred to them.

Bookhitter is a guy on Amazon forums:
re: Bookhater "Gee, how many different "proposed scenarios" are there? Why the need for many different "proposed scenarios"? "
Answer: Because discovering the mechanisms of the real world is more complex than simply making things up.
