If it's an immoral tax, then it's illegal because the government has no authority to impose just any law it likes on the people. Imposing a tax to pay for the gas needed to run Hitler's ovens may be "legal" under the existing law, but it's immoral and therefore is no law at all. The pronouncements of a legislature do not make a law legal. The Supreme Court tells the Congress and state legislatures that all the time. See: Marbury v.
