A man in the US city of Colorado Springs faces police action after becoming so frustrated with his computer that he took it outside and shot it eight times, police say.
"He was having technology problems, so he took it to the back alley and destroyed it," a police spokesman said.
What ever happened to reprogramming it with an axe?

I'll bet the mac forums are a thousandth the size of the Windoze fixit forums.

And anyway, nothing is perfect, it's just that Macs are perfecter than Windoze.

I think the gist of the complaint was the discharge of a firearm within city limits in an unsafe manner. If he'd taken it out to a shooting range or even into the National Forest and blown the crap out of it (and then picked up the pieces) nobody would have cared. But even I will agree that pumping that many rounds into anything in an alley in an urban area is pretty alarming and ought not be allowed unless one is defending one's life.
Seth wrote:Nah. If I'd shot my computer (and I've been tempted to, but not since I switched to Mac) the po-po would never have known because I'd have used my silencer....
Sorry to break it to you Seth, but Macs are the shittiest computers ever made. They are frustratingly unintuitive and insanely over-priced.

A Mac costs TWICE the price, for HALF of the power. It's fucking asinine.
Sorry to break it to you, but Macs are the best computers made for what I need it for, and unlike my Windoze boxes, where the number of security and intrusion threats number in the millions nowadays, I've never once been compromised in more than 20 years of using Macs, and I don't have to buy aftermarket computer security software and pay through the nose every year to keep it updated because Apple includes a very comprehensive and effective firewall and anti-virus system that it updates for free, automatically.
Tisk-tisk Seth. I'm disappointed. :nono: I would think with your technical knowledge of firearms, you would have no problem using an objectively superior PC, instead of some dumbed-down piece of shit.
I'd rather have a "dumbed-down" (which it's not) system that's integrated and very intuitive and easy to use that works every fucking time without fail than spend days pulling my hair out trying to fix a registry error or recover from some worm or virus that Microsoft-in-the-head allowed in to my computer by leaving all 640000 fucking ports open to intrusion 24/7.

I open my computer and it simply works, first time, every time, whether I'm writing or I'm processing still photos or editing video or just surfing the web. I don't even have to think about registry edits or other bullshit that pcs put you through every day of the week.

My Mac Mini server was up and running continuously, without a single failure, for two years. I never had to do anything to it, ever. Updates were installed automatically and it ran flawlessly. I have never, ever had that experience with any Windoze box I've ever owned, ever. Usually I had to reboot twice a day or more before I returned to sanity and threw them all away and bought Macs.
I find your experiences bizarre.

In IT, they would call what your experiencing "operator error."

In 20 years of using PCs I've never once had a virus or bought any anti-virus software. I've never lost any data or needed to do anything with the registry, other than for my customization purposes. And that's even venturing into the more underbelly of the internet for warez.

I also find it bizarre when people find Macs supposedly, "easy to use." I've never seen basic computing tasks be so unnecessarily complicated. Want to do something in 2-3 clicks? Too fucking bad! Use 10 clicks instead. Deal with it. Hopefully efficiency isn't your thing.

"Works every fucking time without fail?" You mean until it doesn't. Just like anything else.

"Think about registry edits?" WTF? Weekly? That's a once in a blue moon thing.

"Other bullshit?" Like what? I sure don't need to do shit. Mine works every time. I'm not special. I don't have magic powers. You don't need a computer engineering degree. This shit is easy.

I've never known anyone who has given up on PCs and switched to Macs. Only vice versa. A buddy of mine is a professional video editor who used Macs for years, and then one day he told my he had to switch to PC because Macs didn't have the horsepower for the editing he needed to do. And it was still cheaper. Hasn't switched back.

Oh, and of course, if you ever want to play a decent game on a Mac... think again.

A place I'd be willing to bet no one here knows even exists:

This hysteria by Mac users about viruses etc is complete bollocks.
It only comes from people who don't use windows.

I bought two laptops two years ago, for less than the price of one Mac, and better spec.
I get all my software free from various dubious sources, a far better range than you can get on a Mac, and I installed free anti-virus and maintenance programs naturally, as insurance.

I've had not one single problem in two years. And all the free stuff works just fine. And I've got one for home, and one for the road. All for less money than one Mac.

If I'd bought a Mac, I would have just the one, I wouldn't have my favourite programs, and would have to pay through the nose for something that might or might not do something similar.

Macs are for people who have no idea.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

O look a PC vs. Mac thread. Hasn't this been done before?

How about a

Java vs. C# thread

or

PHP vs. Python thread

or

Ford vs. Chevy thread

or

Tory vs. Labour thread

or

Liberal vs. Conservative thread

or

2nd ammendment vs. Sane people thread

Most programmers I know use Linux or Mac. I'm no Apple groupie, I own and prefer my android phone, but as far as an OS, OSX is just the best. The idea that they aren't really machines is funny as I've used every one I've had as a server.

So does most of the business world, because OSX is based on Unix, which is the most-used OS in the professional world, for a reason.

One of the reasons is because Unix was designed with all 64000 ports defaulting to closed unless explicitly opened, whereas Windoze was designed with all 64000 ports defaulting to open unless explicitly closed, which leaves at least 64000 points of entry for hacking.

:awesome:

My Android phone will serve up sum http to validate on another host too. Luvs me sum Unix. :tut:

Can't do industry-standard AutoCAD on Mac though. Not ready for Prime Time. Engineers have to use Windows. Sometimes even DOS.

Well, technically DaveDodo is a MGTOW (men going their own way. Sounds gay to me, but whatever)

But I think

MGTOW vs. Sane people

would work

It's a refreshing change to atheists vs theists (or Seth as a proxy); right-wingers vs left-wingers... etc. To be honest, I haven't read a good mac vs pc debate for many a year! :tea:

Of course you haven't, Mac is so much better that PC people can't even hope to make a case and they get destroyed every time they try, so they quit trying. They are now like Scientologists, they hide in back rooms and whisper catechism back and forth to one another as they pray fervently that their anti-virus software is working and that they won't have to sacrifice to the Blue Screen of Death again today.

The blue screen of death disappeared with XP. I don't think I've ever had a OS crash since XP (i.e. using Vista, 7 and 8).
