Would-Be Welsh MP Compares English To Nazis

A Plaid Cymru candidate has come under fire for comparing English people to Nazis.

Mike Parker said rural Wales had been invaded by "paranoid conspiracy theorists" and "gun-toting Final Solution crackpots" from over the border.

He added: "Add to these the thousands of small-minded Little Englanders who have transferred their phobias from the black and Asian populations of their native cities to 'the Welsh' or 'the Taffia' in their new locales, and there is room for much ill-feeling and even trouble."

Mr Parker, who is standing for Plaid Cymru in Ceredigion, made the remarks in an article in 2001 when he was working as a travel writer.

His party said he recognises the language was "inappropriate".

However, it is now facing calls for Mr Parker to be deselected as its candidate for the West Wales seat.

Labour candidate Huw Thomas called the comments "outrageous and deeply offensive" and "exactly the sort of poisonous rhetoric you'd expect from UKIP".

Liberal Democrat Peter Black, who sits in the Welsh Assembly, said Plaid's leader Leanne Wood needed to "show some leadership" and demand a full, public apology from Mr Parker.

The Welsh Conservatives said the comments were "very concerning" and called for a full investigation.

Gethin James, who is contesting the seat for UKIP, told the BBC that if a member of his party had written such a "derogatory" article they would have been asked to consider their position.

Mr Parker has written a statement on his Facebook page, saying he would no longer use such "high-octane" language, but insisted racism should always be challenged.

I'm going to have to agree. The comparison of the English to the Nazis is fair.

Just take a look at the surveillance state they have there. It's down-right Orwellian.

Then, you have to consider the nanny-state and how anti-gun they are.

The Big-Government nature of the UK is quite appalling and it should not be surprising when they're compared to Nazis.
