Black boxes. Another failure.

Post by mistermack » Wed Mar 25, 2015 4:47 pm

The Airbus crash in the Alps looks like being another example of the black boxes not being up to the job.
The voice recorder looks like it's been through the crusher in a scrapyard, although they will probably get the stuff off it.
The data recorder casing has been found, without the insides, so far.

It's about time they designed one that jettisons a pod by parachute automatically, the instant something catastrophic happens. Either that, or an instantaneous transmission of the most recent data over the air to a satellite or something.

What they are doing now is more like WW2 technology than 21st century.

They could still carry on using the current box technology. Just add something that will be certain to survive.

On the crash, it looks odds-on that it was a bomb or hijacking. Although they are not saying anything, it's the most likely thing to suddenly bring down a modern plane at such speed.

I agree, why don't they just live-stream the data to satellites in flight?

Then again, flight data recorders are incredibly durable, but not invulnerable. This appears to be an extremely high speed impact that completely shredded the entire aircraft. Some things even black boxes cannot survive.

What's the chance of satellite transmission actually working if anything went wrong?. Presumably its not that hard to get working when the aircraft is in good nick but I bet there are a lot of technical issues in getting it to stay working in the last few minutes of any disaster which is the only minutes you are really interested in

A muslim man asked for a knife to cut his apple on my flight, and the hostess didn't outright deny him. She was talking to me at the time, so I hope after that she realised you can't give a passenger a knife on an airline.

The pilot went for a jimmy riddle. The cockpit locked from the inside the co-pilot was Italian and the Pilot German. Their English was less than adequate and in German only the pilot who'd locked himself out had the keypad numbers to unlock the door. Pilot beat the door being unable to explain the numbers o the panic stricken co-pilot who was a decky learner(630 hrs) who shouldn't have been in the chair - it was budget airline. The disaster documentary on The Discovery channel will explain it all in better detail. Somewhere there is a script in development already....one death is a tragedy, and a airliner crash is a goldmine for the media. :read:

The co-pilot was newly qualified, by the sound of it. 28 years old. Andre Lubiz or something like that.

Maybe he had been planning this for a while. He locked the pilot out, and flew the plane into the mountains on purpose. He was a german, no mention of his religion or ethnic origin.
German sounding name though.

Still, I expect he's burning in hell now. Thank you baby Jesus.

One of the rather ..what is the word I am looking for..'shocking' doesn't quite do it..perhaps 'arbitrary random shit' elements is a better term, is that the 16 German kids on their way back from an exchange trip[ to Spain were chosen by lots as the trip had too many applicants.

Thanks Jesus for rigging the winners.

Where did you get this information from? I've heard that the crash was intentional.

630 hours doesn't sound much, but he's probably done five times that much at least on a flight simulator as well.

It doesn't take a lot of training to learn that flying into the ground is a bad thing.

It just shows how good psychologists are at identifying what people are thinking.
Dr O'Boyle, a leading consultant to Europe's aviation industry, told BBC News Online that airlines use psychologists to screen five key areas of personality: ability to manage anxiety, conformity, leadership, assertiveness and team-working.

"We want to know how they deal with the on-going worries of a job which is pretty tough," he said.

He got the information from his random thought generator. You'll eventually get used to it... :tea:

The voice recorder indicates that that is what happened.

If you want to kill yourself, just kill yourself. Why take innocent people with you? Fucking asshole.
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

Perhaps he was a nihilist like Scumple. Nothing really matters in the end. Not even other lives.

Apparently.
