Movies are for people without the intellectual abilities needed to read...

I started watching Carrie Last night, the original and not the remake. The first thing that struck me was how much nudity there was in it  Especially surprising given that the girls were supposed to be high school students (though likely played by actresses in their twenties). The second thing that struck me was how beautifully made the film is. The acting is a little uneven but the two leads are excellent, especially Sissy Spacek. I think she is an amazing actress, not to mention gorgeous. She brings such an intensity to the role that elevates this film into something far greater than it would have been without her.
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

We just watched Synecdoche, New York. Mostly because we'd heard Rev hated it. It's weird as fuck, but we both really liked it.

Having read rEv's critical comments on Groundhog Day, I have wondered if Bill Murray might not have starred in a good film after all. Turned out, he has. rEv turns out to be a very reliable indicator of a film's quality, albeit not in the way he may think he is.

Looks ike Birdman got Best Picture at the Oscars. It deserved it too.

Not that it was a great list. American Sniper and The Theory of Everything were so average I don't even know how they made the list. I think they should cut the list back down to five pictures at this stage.

rEv hasn't seen any of those movies. I'll let you know in time if the Oscars got it right or not. :coffee:

You make much sense. I agree with you on both TOE and Magic American Sniper, so I'll have to see Birdman when I get home.

Did think The Grand Budapest was a little faget fairy tale, but it was cute and reminds us all that it's really worthwhile to be fabulous if that's how your little light shines.

Sorry about In The Blood, but it was watchable for me in that a gutsy performance and good camera work almost rescued a total B movie. That chick could easily kick Patrick Swayze's and Sam Elliot's ass. And now that I said it, you could easily see her in Roadhouse, couldn't you?

Lol! Yeah he's a bit of a cartoon, at least as portrayed in the film.

There is a documentary called Citizenfour which won for Best Documentary Feature about Edward Snowden. Now there's a real, American hero. I think I'll watch it later.

Just watched Citizenfour. A great account of the incidents surrounding the Snowden leaks which should be watched by anyone concerned about governments infringing on our freedoms.

I invite you to read my post from a few days ago in the "Blasphemy" thread.

The whole matter is a cover story, spoon-fed to a pair of reporters as part of a process. He who shall not be named is not, and never was, a "whistle-blower".
