A video published online by Islamic State (IS) militants claims to show Jordanian pilot Moaz al-Kasasbeh being burned alive.

The video, which could not immediately be verified, showed a man standing in a cage and engulfed in flames.

Lt Moaz al-Kasasbeh was captured when his plane came down near Raqqa, Syria, in December on a mission to support the US-led military coalition against IS.

Jordan has been attempting to secure his release as part of a prisoner swap.

The video posted online on Tuesday was distributed via a Twitter account known as a source for IS propaganda.

A fellow was driving along I-65 in Alabama when he saw the billboard for the Talking Pig, and couldn't resist. He followed the signs and arrived at the farm where the Talking Pig lived, and after paying a rather steep entry fee, was stunned that the pig actually could talk, and what's more, could carry on intelligent conversations and hold forth concerning the events of the world. I keep telling you, religion has its place in society and it's positive uses and applications. I think this is one such instance. It's not that I believe it will make any difference, but the jihadis will. I also advocate that all coalition forces fighting the IS lubricate their projectiles with pig fat and that pig fat be mixed with all explosives so as to render unclean the entire area around a shell crater. I'd load up C-4 Galaxy's with pig-fat dispersing equipment and I'd spray every damned population center in the whole damned sandpit just to make it unclean for them and piss them off. And, on the off chance they are right, doom them to hell in the process.

No, we don't need their intel, we just need to kill them the instant they are identified by word or deed. Advocate for jihad on the web, have a JDAM stuffed down your stovepipe 30 minutes later. March in an assembly advocating "death to the great Satan" in Tikrit or Mosul, have a couple of A-10 Warthogs do 20mm minigun strafing runs, followed by a couple of F-22s dropping napalm on the remnants, as a matter of public sanitation.

I wasn't really talking about the pig thing. I was talking about the kill all the crazy Old Testament types, while sounding like an Old Testament type yourself. This is the problem with this whole "they started it" thing. It's not actually entirely clear who 'started it'. And it's not entirely accurate to paint them as barbaric while we are supposedly some paragons of virtue. Israel burnt kids eyes out with white phosphorous munitions supplied by the US. The US fails to ratify the anti-landmine and clusterbomb treaties. etc etc etc. Being 'just as bad as they are' because 'they started it' is probably the exact thing the other side is saying. It's obviously not a solution. It's really only a recipe for total war. Of course you moralising conservatives would love that, but the more rational part of our societies would prefer not to be at constant war for the next 50 years.
