It'll be interesting to see how the new dark age pans out? when the lights go out it may be sometime before they are relit....knowledge is lost rapidly when civilization decline turns to a fall, a rout.

Innumerable problems rising fast and ready. Answers slower. It is the same with all late civilizations, and even global villages must fall to ruin one day.

Inevitable as the economic malaise of the last decade turns into the economic catastrophe of the coming decade that resources to contain Ebola will not be sufficient. The human chaos in Africa and India and China and Russia and Brazil will lead to it spreading everywhere. Only a fortress economy will survive. Universal hand passing gifting culture, the very hallmark of what is modern capitalism, will be too risky when 50%-90% of the population have no immunity. The modern world will vanish and likely for a very long time, perhaps forever. A aberration in the story of life here on Earth thrown up one time and never afterwards. The night will be long.

That might have been true a thousand years ago, when hardly anybody could read or write, and knowledge was passed on by word of mouth.

Now, a thousand years later, knowledge is fairly indestructible. Unless someone like Isis takes over the world, I guess.
