Why, Seth? Remember, carbon does not cause warming!

Because they are tasty!Tero wrote:Why, Seth? Remember, carbon does not cause warming!
And I never said that carbon doesn't cause warming. I merely maintain that anthropogenic sources have not been shown to be the direct proximate cause of whatever warming (if any) is being reported. I maintain that the variations we have seen so far have never, ever fallen outside of the research-based fluctuations in global temperature over time. And I maintain that all the "projections" based on computer models are false because they have been proven false by the fact that not one of those models upon which all the AGW hysteria is based has accurately projected global, much less local temperatures with any accuracy at all, and (here's a dirty little climate fraud fact) EVERY ONE of those projections has a margin of error that outstrips the maximum and minimum projected excursions within one year.
In other words, the projections are entirely useless propaganda created to scare the public with in order that control of quite literally every aspect of human life can be taken over and controlled by a one-world government headed by the UN, and puppeteered by the real monarchs of the earth, people like George Soros and the Bilderberg group.
In short, the whole AGW thing is a fraud perpetrated on the public in order to consolidate power and control in the hands of those who have the most to gain by doing so.
The simple fact is that the planet has been much hotter than it is now, and much, much colder, as demonstrated by the geophysical record, and what is happening now has not exceeded either of those parameters during which life has existed and abounded on this planet. And I'd rather live on an entirely tropical planet devoid of ice than on a frozen ice-ball, thank you very much. And since we are somewhat overdue for another period of glaciation, I can only view AGW, if it exists, which I doubt, as a benefit to the longevity of life on earth.
So, what's the big deal? Climate change? Yes, of course it does, all the time. Adapt or die.

Obama Science Aide Says Humans Preventing New Ice Age
Posted 12/24/2014 06:17 PM ET
John Holdren, assistant to President Obama for science and technology, discovers the benefits of global warming.
Climate Change: The president's science czar, who once said there are too many people and advocated sterilizing people through drinking water, says at least human activity is preventing the ice age that we'd been warned about.
A tenet of global warming theology, now dubbed "climate change" to cover everything that used to be called weather, is that man is warming the Earth by manufacturing and exhaling carbon dioxide and that one of the consequences, and the theme of the science-fiction movie "Day After Tomorrow," is that said warming could trigger a new ice age.
John Holdren, who holds the title of assistant to the president for science and technology, shares this view as well.
But in a recent online question-and-answer session in which he fielded queries from the public, he let slip the seeming contradiction that without the influence of man and his industrial activities, the Earth would probably be slipping into a cyclical ice age all on its own, just like the last one.
"While the climate of the Earth has changed over millennia as a result of natural factors — principally changes in the tilt and orientation of the Earth's axis and rotation, and in the shape of its orbit around the sun — those changes occur far too gradually to have noticeable effects over a period of mere decades," Holdren said on a video obtained by MRC-TV.
"In their current phases, moreover, they would be gradually cooling the Earth — taking us to another ice age — if they weren't being more than offset by human-caused warming."
Wait, what? Human-caused warming is preventing another ice age?
Isn't this a good thing? Why would we want to stop it and return to an age of roughly 20,000 years ago when glaciers were carving out the Great Lakes and leaving Chicago under a mile-thick sheet of ice?
We admit we're a little confused here, seeing that anthropogenic global warming, according to climate zealots, is supposed to bring on an ice age that Holdren says it's preventing.
But then, climate theology is full of contradictions, and if it's too wet or too dry, too cold or too warm, it's all blamed on global warming.
Still, Holdren's statement is not likely to sit well with the high priests of climate change.
We are reminded of an article in the June 24, 1974, issue of Time entitled "Another Ice Age?" It told of how, "when meteorologists take an average of temperatures around the globe, they find that the atmosphere has been gradually cooler for the past three decades."
Time spoke then of a "global climatic upheaval" and "climatological Cassandras who are becoming increasingly apprehensive, for the weather aberrations they are studying may be the harbinger of another ice age."
A 1977 Time cover advised us on "How To Survive The Coming Ice Age."
Reputable scientists using satellites and other observations have noted another cooling period underway since 1998, as global temperatures have virtually flat-lined. Declining solar activity in the current cycle correlates with other cool periods in Earth's history. It ties in perfectly with climate history that shows the warming and cooling of Earth is a natural and cyclical process.
We tend to side with those who believe that when compared to the "natural factors" Holdren spoke of — such as the influence of that giant thermonuclear furnace called the sun that we orbit, ocean currents, etc. — the contribution of man to the mix is rather tiny.
To the extent it might in fact be extending the current interglacial period we are in, well, that's fine with us.

Lol! I read as far as "a tenet of global warming theology" before realising I was reading an article by cranks.

Suppose that these administrations set the goal. As soon as the impact of a fossil-fuel free future comes home to roost with the citizenry, that administration will be replaced with one that will continue to extract fossil fuels and make life better and easier for the masses, by lethal force if necessary.
Before the people of the world will give up fossil fuels there will have to be an enormous natural disaster that convinces everyone to accede to the sacrifices necessary to go fossil-fuel free. Political pandering and alarmism ain't going to do it.
That's just plain old human nature.

Re: Global Climate Change Science News
Have you started burning coal, Seth? It's your duty, if your state has coal. To keep the ice age away. Coal is best! Gas not as good.
Re: Global Climate Change Science News
Sadly no. My wood stove doesn't use coal. My old Franklin stove on the ranch did though. I'd get that mother cherry-red when the temps really dropped using coal-logs (crushed coal mixed with paraffin and formed into square logs). But many people do use coal in Colorado.Tero wrote:Have you started burning coal, Seth? It's your duty, if your state has coal. To keep the ice age away. Coal is best! Gas not as good.

Re: Global Climate Change Science News
Alaska is the Saudi Arabia of coal, but no one really uses it here.
Everyone has a Monitor or Toyo oil heater though, exclusively or to back up the wood stoves.
The State and Federal gov will each give you a permit to cut 10,000 bft/yr, which is about 20 cords. I used to take the kids up to the cold country away from the coast for a big gooseneck haul of white spruce and birch over Xmas break. Logging (and camping) is much better here in the winter, where we can skid logs easily across the snow with a go-devil and snow machines, there's no fire danger, and no bugs. And the proverbial first warming the wood produces is not wasted.
Since they've flown the coop, I mostly just go to the local riverbeds with friends, someplace I can drive to in my truck, and cut a load of dry Sitka or hemlock logs when it's nice out, and winch them up on a 24' gooseneck, and take them home and deck them near the woodshed for me to buck and split at my leisure.
It's just so enjoyable to get carbon-neutral wood, there's no point in burning coal here...
