Ebola outbreak 'far from over'

To declare the deadly Ebola outbreak in West Africa is under control is akin to saying "we have put a leash on a tiger," said Delaware Sen. Chris Coons on Monday from Monrovia, Liberia.

Delaware's junior senator addressed media from Liberia and stateside to discuss his weekend-long trip across Liberia, surveying the ongoing international efforts to stop the spread of Ebola.

Coons, the first member of Congress to visit Liberia since the Ebola outbreak began, says that despite the dramatic and encouraging changes he's seen, the disease is still widespread.

The latest statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that there have been 19,031 reported cases and 7,373 deaths from the highly infectious disease. Liberia has been the hardest hit by Ebola, tallying 3,346 deaths.

"This epidemic is far from over," Coons said.

Who said it was over? Even with optimistic numbers (less than one infection from a sick person), it will take years to fizzle to a low number. Embers will burn for years. Like a pile of tires at a dump.

It'll flare up in the spring. Warm weather and roads become passable again, tourists and idiots from China to Illinois all piling in. :crumple:

God had much better plagues in the old days. This one is taking ages. Sort yourself out, God.

When this epidemic fizzles out, Scumple will need care and attention from the forum; poor chap will have nothing to post about...
