Oh, the new one is out now? I didn't realize that. I loved the first one. Which was refreshing, since I didn't have much use for the LotR films. They were beautiful, sure, but, to me, rather tiresome. Anyway, yeah, I loved the first Hobbit. And Martin Freeman is a great choice for the lead (he plays a fantastic Watson, also, opposite Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock). But the second Hobbit film seemed to me to dispense with all that made the first enjoyable. I guess I'll probably see the third, but it's not something I have much enthusiasm for.Seth wrote:The Hobbit - The Battle of Five Armies.
Meh. Lots of epic (and very well done) CG battle scenes with absolutely no character development or interesting relationships.
Nothing to do with Tolkien either.
It's no wonder Christopher Tolkien won't let Jackson butcher The Silmarillion or Tolkien's other works
Wasn't Guillermo del Toro supposed to originally do the Hobbit? Fuck, now that would've been something to see.

Since then, they have made a couple of stunners (No Country for Old Men, A Serious Man) but I have lost the sense of eager anticipation that I used to have when I knew that a new Coen object was about to be unleashed. Sad that.

I surely did love Fargo. I need to watch Burn After Reading again. That was a lot of fun, if I recall.

Now, what what would The Hobbit & LOTR movies have been like if the Coen brothers did them?

Welsh, but it was a bit over the top. I mean, I do know people from West Wales with similar accents but it seemed a bit of a mishmash.tattuchu wrote:Anyhow right now I'm watching this movie called Locke starring Tom Hardy. It's just him driving in his car talking on the phone. Seriously, that's all it is. But it's interesting so far just on the strength of Hardy's performance. Has anybody seen this film? I'm just wondering what kind of accent he's doing

The Interview. Pretty shit. 2 hours of toilet humour that wasn't really humorous. Meh. Sony were right the first time - should have pulled it.
