New Zealand just got voted the best country in the world to visit.

Second best were the Maldives and South Africa. Results were by a vote by 90,000 participants organised by the Daily Telegraph newspaper.

South Africa? Fine if you're visiting the wildlife parks and suchlike, but some of the urban areas ...

Or are you allowed to exclude the less salubrious areas in every country when ranking them like this?

South Africa is the second best country in the world to visit? With its murder rate of 31 per 100,000? :wacky:

Love SA, lived there for several years. Haven't been to NZ but I really want to go. Fucking long plane ride, though.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

A bunch of Brits in the Telegraph vote NZ the place they'd like to visit? Kudos, New Zealand!

So it is the favourite place to visit for British Tories. OK. Run the same poll in Smash Hits and you'll probably get Ibiza. Ask around Brick Lane and Mecca will come tops. Meh. :tea:

NZ is definitely a great place to visit. I'd have it as my number 1 taking into account both scenery, attractions, friendly people and stable rule of law. That is, there's plenty of incredibly scenic and friendly places to visit (say India and Turkey for example), but you don't ever feel totally safe and healthy there. NZ you do. You get everything. Maybe Germany, Austria and Switzerland would rank high in my book too. But they don't speak English. Fucking weirdos!

People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

I was thinking along the same lines. Would love to go to India, and Turkey as well. And from what I've seen, New Zealand is an extraordinarily beautiful place. I remember watching a Vincent Ward film years ago which was set in NZ, and it looked like an absolutely magical place. And this was long before the Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings films. But ever since I saw that Vincent Ward film (whose title escapes me because my brain is defective), I've wanted to go there.

Of course my dream is to go to the U.K. and see England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland. I think there are few places in the world more beautiful. And when I see pictures of the U.K., it just looks...I dunno, it just feels like home to me. Like I belong there, like I was always meant to be there. I grew up in Massachusetts but my heart and my blood are in England.

As far as South Africa, the only image in my mind I have of that country is District 9 :? Oh, and Dries, of course. I would go there, if I could, just to visit Dries. I'd love to share a few drinks with him and listen to stories about his cases (assuming he was allowed to talk about them). But other than District 9 and Dries (and Olympian murderers), I have nothing to draw on to form a picture of what South Africa is like. I know nothing about it.

I just watched District 9 on the tele. It just finished about 10 minutes ago. :hehe: But Sth Africa is a very scenic country too. Not the safest place in the world, though.
