In the recent election in our state, the upper house has elected a weird mixture of single interest political parties. From an Age article:
With roughly a third of the vote counted, the Shooters Party appeared set to take seats off the Coalition in all three country regions, even though it won only 2 or 3 per cent of the vote in each.
As in last year's federal Senate election, minor parties organised their preferences to elect at least one of their group in most of Victoria's eight regions, based on calculations using ABC analyst Antony Green's Senate calculator.
The Shooters appear likely to win seats in Eastern Victoria, with 2.6 per cent of the vote, Northern Victoria (3.5 per cent), and Western Victoria (2.4 per cent). In each case, the seats have been taken from the Coalition, with MPs Andrew Ronalds and David O'Brien among the losers.
Apparently the Sex Party has a chance of claiming a seat as well...

What about the Aftershow Party? And the Pyjama Party? How did they do?
Not to mention the Arty-Farty Tarty Party?

with MPs Andrew Ronalds and David O'Brien among the losers.
They ain't the only losers by a long way. Sounds like even the winners are losers in Victoria.

Get rid of state government. Australia has fewer people than the city of Cairo, and it has three levels of government. That is, three sets of politicians with their snouts in the taxpayers trough!

Agreed. But then New Zealand has fewer people than the township of Oodnadatta and still has two levels.

Heh. Not very ambitious, are you?
I'm working on creating one sole government body ruling the entire globe. Everything else will be reduced to areas of administration. What could possibly go wrong?

Surely some bright spark on the parliamentary staff will "accidentally" misspell the Shooters Party...
The Hooters Party could form a working alliance with the Sex Party...
