There is one form of women's boxing that I would pay to see, and that is if a really top one was put in against Noel Edmunds, or Chris Evans, in a real fight to the finish. It would have to be real, not faked though. And to the death, preferably.

I would pay to watch that though. Does that make me a bad person?

Has there ever been a society of any magnitude that did not support combat sports? Too many people want to do it.
It's quite possible to have combat sports where the main purpose of the sport isn't to hurt/damage your opponent. People may still get hurt playing but that's not the goal in itself.

Breaking someone leg in football , breaking their neck in rugby, knocking someone out with a cricket ball all happens but doesn't actually allow you to win the game

Even in karate or fencing you are trying to make contact with your opponent not hurt them

Bodyline, aka Fast Leg Theory.

Bodyline was considered cheating and rightly banned.

No sport whose specific aim is to hurt your opponent has any place in a civilized society and no just because the individuals want to do it is no justification. They can beat the shit out of each other in private if turns them on but if they do so in public its society business

The Sweet Science is the pinnacle of human sporting competition, at least in this degenerate and pussified age. Screw gloves and rounds and doctors, bring back bare knuckle toe-to-toe. Hell, give them melee weapons. And animals. Imagine The Rock dressed by Frank Frazetta using a war hammer against a genetically modified polar bear/wolverine cross. Now that's entertainment.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

From what I've heard, gloves allow a boxer to exert much more foot-poundage than they would be able to without and present a higher risk of brain injury as a result. Bare knuck boxing is more likely to result in injuries like cuts, broken hands, etc...

Anyway, the way I see it is - if two consenting adults (regardless of sex) want to fight according to set rules and the public are willing to pay money to watch the spectacle then why shouldn't they be allowed to?

So if people want to watch two people murder each other with chainsaws and put it on pay per view tv thats ok?

Boxing is only one step down from that , people are just trying to brain damage each other (knocking someone out is brain damage)

They're not fighting with chainsaws, are they? They're punching each other according to well-dfined rules.
What a stupid fucking question.

No it's not. The object of the cometition is to land more punches than your opponent.

Who the fuck are you to demand that everyone else live by your pathetic, wimpy and fugitive code of ethics, and who are you to tell other people what to do with their own bodies?
Seriously. I'm embarrassed for you.

The main problem I see is that the young people who get into boxing either don't know about, or ignore the likely long-term health effects, particularly in terms of brain function.

One could same much the same about the likes of American Football or Rugby Union, where the risks of concussion are now well established.
