A US man caused £35,000 of damage to his home after trying to kill a spider with a blowtorch made from a can of spray paint and a lighter.
The arachnophobe, who was renting the house in west Seattle with his mother, managed to cause $60,000 (£35,000) worth of damage when he ignited the blaze at just before 8.30pm on Tuesday.
Kyle Moore, a spokesman for the Seattle Fire Department, said the man used the spray paint and lighter as "a self-made blowtorch to kill a spider in the laundry room".
"I don't want to encourage people to do this, but that's what he did,” he added.
"The spider tried to get into the wall. He sprayed flames on the wall, lit the wall on fire, and that extended up to the ceiling."

Spiders are your friends. They eat small insects. Adopt a spider today!

People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.
But those letters are not silent.
They're just waiting their turn.

Perhaps not a Sydney Funnel Web, though...
Even in that case, I would suggest the back of a slipper rather than a blow-torch...

Bad article is bad. Did he kill the spider or did it manage to escape? That remains the burning question.

A CSI team is currently examining the house in detail to answer this question...
