Clearly, you missed my point. Racism (plus other things) in Breivik's case, virulent hatred of women in Rodger's case, sure. But the equivalent is Breivik's case would be to ask to what extent did on-line racist/extreme right wing groups cause his rampage. You were specific about the PUA/MRA groups; I'm questioning how direct was their causal influence on Rodger.

This is kind of like that "Catcher In The Rye" phenomenon (or more recently, Marilyn Manson and the Columbine High massacre). That is, how much blame can we put on one particular segment of media, and how much on the broader society (and indeed how much on the individual)? Violent video games, etc. Dunno what the answer is.

Yes. I'm not being dogmatic about it, and saying that there is no connection with the PUA/MRA dickheads, but direct causation is over the top...

I'm not saying direct 100% responsibility, but from what I've read and could stomach watching, I'd have to say that the manosphere and the values and ideas they spread definitely played a part here.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Having serious problems with not finding a mate and sinking into 'depression' (in quotes as I'm not commenting as a doctor) is hardly uncommon.

I know plenty of people from university who couldn't get a girlfriend at 21 and still haven't 20 years later are still down about it.

It's what turns the pissed of about life into lets actually go out and kill everyone that is the interesting question.

Here's an idea instead of teaching celibacy, how about teaching boys and girls how to get together (yes some men do need lessons in how to do so)

I have absolutely no idea what that is?

But I can certainly emphasise with fuck the world and kill everyone, doesn't mean I think that's very constructive but I can't believe that most people haven't had times in their life when they haven't felt that way.

It's what stops us doing so that is interesting, not those who don't stop before its too late
