Shooting at US Army's Fort Hood base in Texas

A shooting at the US Army's Fort Hood base in Texas has left at least one person dead and 14 injured. Other reports speak of four dead.

The all-clear has now sounded at the base and cars are leaving the complex.

President Barack Obama said he was "heartbroken" over the attack and vowed to investigate fully.

A gun rampage at the same base in 2009 left 13 soldiers dead and 32 wounded. Maj Nidal Hasan was sentenced to death for that attack.

From his own gun, or someone else's?

Typical day for Texas I would have thought? Not much happening elsewhere for it to make the news?

America will soon be energy self-sufficient. Should be interesting when that happens - on a side note, thinking.

Clearly this would never have hapened if the people in the base were allowed to bear arms.

Given that carrying weapons is expressly forbidden on most US military bases, save between the armory and range, I don't see what's funny. :coffee:

Same here, Svarty. If they had been allowed to keep their arms on them while on base, and seeing as how they're specifically trained to take down other armed people, the guy may never have been able to kill anyone but himself. :dunno:

I'm not saying this applies to the public at large, since most of them aren't trained to respond to an armed enemy, but in this particular case...

You were forbidden to carry weapons in red cross ambulances in WW2, but there was one in my dads ambulance - he survived to tell. Maybe following orders, rules and regulations is too tight in Texas? :whisper:

Actually, carrying of concealed weapons is forbidden on US military bases. And I still find it funny that the proposed solution to problems caused by people carrying guns is for more people to carry guns. Well, maybe not so much funny as absurd.

Almost time to move this thread to the gun club?
