Local media: Artificial blood created by Romanian scientists, closer to human testing

After years of researches and tests in laboratories, Romanian chemist Radu Silaghi-Dumitrescu and his team of scientists from the Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, are getting closer to present a product that could revolutionize the medical system.

Radu Silaghi-Dumitrescu told local Wall-street.ro that the aim of the artificial blood created by him and his team is not to replace the blood from the human organism, but to be a complementary solution.

The artificial blood is made of water, salt, albumin and a protein called hemerythrin, which has been extracted from marine worms.

While at the Cluj Innovation Days event, the Romanian authorities gave assurance that the project developed by Radu Silaghi – Dumitrescu, along with his team of specialists, will continue to benefit from investments, reports Wall-street.ro.

The Romanian chemist expects the artificial blood to be also tested on humans in about two years, not only on animals.

Artificial blood has been in the pipeline (no pun intended) for many years. I'm surprised it's taken this long to get anywhere with the idea.

Sounds like blood plasma and not blood they are talking about in article.

Plasma substitutes have been in circulation (pardon the pun) for years. I can remember All About Science mentioning this in the 1970s.
