I agree that this is slightly warped. Using the US as an example getting counts of states visited would be equivalent. It's more of a trip for me to visit Nevada now than it used to be to visit France when I lived in the South East of England. As for the stereotype of Americans not travelling, the rather pervasive opinion of US exceptionalism probably doesn't help. I'm sure someone somewhere has done studies to determine if its true though.

Citizensmith, I tend to agree. I was born in the US, but I haven't lived there in going on 2 decades. I think it would be more interesting for me if I visited the Pacific Northwest, the upper Rockies, than if I went to, say, India. I've been up and down the east coast, through the middle and across the southwest, but never made it northwest. As for locally, I think I'd have more fun going to Jeju Island (the Hawaii of Korea) than hitting a new country.
