Cool tech - in line on line 3d

Just touch an object to examine it in 3d

Brilliant and unobtrusive. I'd say a high speed link is best but I really like how this works

Would be very nice on a ipad for online teaching for instance.

And a neat article as well :coffee:

Well 2.5d anyway. It's similar to the virtual walk-throughs and google street-view but centred on one object. As you say, it's nice to see it so comfortably in line and unobtrusive, But the real problem is with capturing the images from all angles. I can see archaeologists and the like making good use of it, having a turn-table and camera rig to record every sample - actually I imagine they already do far more than that with laser scanning and whatnot for anything really significant. But for most uses it'll never be worth the effort for the additional information gained over a simple front and back shot. There could probably be a software solution, like with panoramic photos, that allows you to circle an object and that then picks the best shots and tracks the object to keep it centred. It would never be very smooth though, and mostly just gimmicky.
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]

Yeh, it is nice, but just the lock picture took an age to load. And in the end, it doesn't really tell you much more than what four or five shots would tell you.

It reminds me of Google Earth, which is way ahead of what this does, but obviously has a huge budget.

I'm sure it's the future for pictures though, once they get it to load quicker.

It will definitely have a future in porn.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.
