Why is curling divided into men's and women's?

Post by mistermack » Wed Feb 19, 2014 4:08 pm

There's a lot I don't understand about curling. But it's a mystery, why men and women don't compete in the same teams.
Of course, women might be better with a brush, but men might be better throwing stones.

Something else that's odd. It's a bit like bowling. But world bowls champions are usually big fat older men, like darts players.
These women curlers are all fit glamorous young things. And the men are similar, although I'm not one to judge. So how come that?

Is there ageism going on, or fatism?

I think there is. To stay in the Olympics, I reckon they've been told not to include old fatties in the teams, or the sport gets ditched.

Men are better at curling. At the competitive Olympic and World's level anyway.

They can throw more weight for one and I hear men are generally better at spacial awareness stuff which is good for curling, I suppose.

Plus this way Canada gets to win two medals in curling. :cheer:

If it were open to both men and women they would be carnally tempted, and it would end up as a mass orgy of vigorous rutting on ice...

And what's with all the yelling? Screaming at the damn thing isn't going to make it score more points, or whatever it does.

When I was a kid, EVERYONE played marbles. Everyone. Boys, girls, boy/girls.

How come that never made the olympics? Those girls would look nice, bent over, flicking their wrists.

Al sports should be unisex fuck em if they can't compete at the top level. Giving them a "second best" prize helps no one.

Agreed! About time we punish women for having less upper body strength and marginally less lower body strength. :demon:

Why would we need to punish them? Seems a bit draconian.

It's the American version of lawn bowlers following their shot with their forearms remotely controlling the curl of their bowls with an imaginary steering wheel, and it's instinctive. While watching a cricket match on television I once almost knocked a coffee mug off a table trying to help Jeff Thompson take a catch. He succeeded, so I reckon that sort of thing does make a difference.

It's tradition. You have to some wimpy event such as a bake off for women and men to merge into one event.
