Researchers have found that all humans have a tendency to treat people, not of their family, tribal, or social group, as less than human.
But that's racism :awesanta:

Which I've been saying for years, racism is a natural human instinct. It's nice to know a mainstream scientific publication is getting brave enough to start to address the question again, though with a few word changes so not to set off the alarm bells.

What humans call racism, a preference for individuals closely related in DNA and an aversion for individuals of differing DNA exists in many if not most other living organisms.
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

Uhm, more often than not people that are not of their family, tribal, or social group are of the same race, ya twat.

So what? Is there a point?

Chimpanzees will happily wipe out adjoining clans. Same species. Same race.

The article did not imply any need for significant genetic difference for the dehumanising process to happen. They referred to experiments in which people were chosen by random methods to belong to one team or the other, and compete on trivial issues. Yet even then the trend to dehumanising the 'others' was marked.

Yes, of course, individuals will be unaware of the genetic connection to others.
But in ancient human and ape society, those of your group will almost certainly be the closest to you, genetically.
In any case, if those in the neighbouring clan dehumanise YOU, then you had better do the same, or they will probably wipe you out. Like I said, the nice humans went extinct tens of thousands of years ago.
We killed them. And probably ate them.

Actually, while there is no doubt an element of truth in the idea that human nastiness is partly genetic, we should also face the point that a lot is learned.

In other words, society can arrange itself in such a way as to minimise general nastiness, through proper learning. This has been happening. As Prof. Pinker would tell you, human violence and general nastiness has dropped dramatically. This drop has been particularly marked over the past 500 years (the enlightenment) as science grew and religion diminished.

Racism is believing that there is significant genetic difference (often related to intelligence or behaviour) between groups of humans. What you describe isn't racism. It's an attempt to invoke a naturalistic fallacy to justify your backward and hateful beliefs.

No, that is the scientific and moral justification for racism :prof:

No, that's racism. Accepting there are differences between different groups of humans is not racism. It's what one does with that small difference, and the gross extension of that difference into unrelated domains, that defines racism.

You've undoubtedly grown up in an environment that was racist. You've learnt racist behaviour from your peers and superiors and now you seek rationalisations for that racist behaviour. That actually makes you a worse kind of racist, as you understand the concept of rationality. Most racists are probably so irrational it's amazing that they can function at all. Indeed, a lot of them, are probably quite socially retarded.
