We watched Elysium last night. I was unexpectedly impressed. It felt a lot like District 9 (same director). Excellent bit of sci-fi.

Don't mind those comments. It's awesome sauce.

People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.
But those letters are not silent.
They're just waiting their turn.

Ah, cool. I'll check it out. I can get that one free through amazon as well.Azathoth wrote:The second one is better. Creepy little fucker in that bothers me much more than the doctor

I do think the doctor in the first one was perfect for his role. Holy shit where'd they find that guy

It's just, as someone who is used to horror and fucked up shit, the reaction I had to the first one was, "Oh, is that it? What's all the fuss about, then?"

Anyone seen American Hustle? Has had some good reviews.
Re: Movies of the good kind we have looked upon.
It's good. Sort of Goodfellas lite. I don't think it's as good as made out. Like last year's Argo I think it's an example of just how bad movies are these days that when a half decent one comes out it gets propelled with five star ratings when 20 years ago it would only of got 3.Rum wrote:Anyone seen American Hustle? Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

Re: Movies of the good kind we have looked upon.
Yeah, when he fishes out the tendons and cuts them, that made me queasy. Nothing else grossed me out, though, despite all the reviews on amazon warning me how graphic it was going to be. One reviewer described it as worse than A Serbian Film (which I've never seen). But it seemed fairly restrained to me. The most horrific thing about it, to me, was when the protagonist licked his finger! That was one seriously creepy (and hilarious) dude. I think the film was a goddamn masterpiece because of his performance. Roger Ebert gave the film zero stars. In this instance, Ebert is an idiot, because I thought this was one of the few horror films that was actually genuinely creepy. Most horror films are retarded. They either try to startle you through various cliched techniques like things jumping out of the dark and quick camera cuts, or they try to gross you out with gore. They're rarely successful. This film worked because of the creepy central performance. The gore, what there was of it, worked within the context of the story. It didn't come across as gratuitous. And I even wondered if perhaps I was watching an edited version because, again, aside from the tendon snipping, I thought to myself, "Oh. Okay. Is this it, then? Is this as gross as it gets? Because it's not that gross."

Jack Reacher. Meh. The best bits (all two of them) were already revealed in the trailer.
The Expendables 2. Retarded, sure, but more fun than I thought it'd be. I laughed at Dolph Lundgren's Einstein napkin scene, and the Rubik's Cube scene, for instance, because I know in real life that Lundgren supposedly has a genius level IQ.

Watched Elysium.
Yep, good film. And I agree about it 'feeling' like District 9...The dust, rubbish, shanty towns and South African accents had a lot to do with this, I think.
