OK, thanks. Have to say I would have been happier if you had lashed out at the forum for being overly harsh.

I've been tempted, both here and at RatSkep. It is easy to be harsh about the situation; there's plenty to be harsh about. But it's important to remember that people actually live there, and are really suffering.
It is really scary that a major city in a western civilisation (yeah, I do count the USA) can stoop that low.
Yes. In modern society we forget that only a very thin membrane of safety separates us from falling through to the night.
I think that language has a lot to do with interfering in our relationship to direct experience. A simple thing like metaphor will allows you to go to a place and say 'this is like that'. Well, this isn't like that. This is like this.

So quick, the decline to fall, too. I still listen to Motown and it is so contemporary and forward looking it could be any cities attitude to the future in the modern world today.

Curious how many stray dogs are there in a 'normal' city of 2 million?, I assume 50000 is bad but would be interested to compare it to elsewhere?

Virtually none in most UK cities. Incidentally I think the amazing thing is the functional and wonderful places many cities manage to be. Of course there are dumps, but they are a rarity which is amazing when you consider all the boxes they have to tick. I love cities myself. I'll give Detroit a miss though I think!

Yes, very few in Melbourne too. Sometimes you get a dog that has escaped from a backyard with insufficient fencing...

Safer to put some serious money into bolstering the council dog-catchers (which might involve shooting if required)

It's symptomatic of a broken socio-economic and political model.

That's exactly what the banks and bond markets said.

They have a serious money-making tourist venue they are ignoring. I'd pay money to be allowed to take my silenced Colt M4, IR laser, thermal sight and dual PVS-14s to Detroit and sneak around in the dark whacking feral dogs. It'd be just as much fun as whacking feral hogs in Texas, but you'd get some good urban combat movement training in at the same time.

Are there any muslims or marxists in Detroit? You could hunt them too!

That type of trainin' will be real practical when the zombie times come. Libertarians should buy up Detroit and create a utopian meritocracy based on a Lassie-faire urban combat shooting ranch economy.

:awesome: What an awesome idea! They could also train to overthrow the marxist government in urban warfare. It's a libbo win-win!

Yes, and that would be so safe for the people who still live there. I'm sure they would love it.
