It's big, guys, fucking big!

Superstition.mistermack wrote:I must admit, I don't understand geothermal energy economics. There must be major problems that make it uneconomic in most situations, because they spend billions to get oil up from the depths, just to make energy, and yet there it is, waiting to be used.
The only one that I've read about, is a power station somewhere in the African Rift Valley, which has been producing electricity for years. Iceland, I guess, is producing electricity from geothermal.
I wonder why they haven't had a go at this, for electrical generation? If the magma is within 6,000 feet of the surface in places, there must be a hell of a lot of hot rock, above it. Surely they could make that pay?
Of course, if they could, they would, it being America. But I'd like to know what's stopping them.
That's crazy. I would just ignore the superstitious nonsense, and keep my finger's crossed, and go for it. Nothing's going to happen.Scrumple wrote: Superstition.
Easier to start fires than to put them out.mistermack wrote:That's crazy. I would just ignore the superstitious nonsense, and keep my finger's crossed, and go for it. Nothing's going to happen.Scrumple wrote: Superstition.

That depends on the weather. You've obviously never been to the west of Ireland.Scrumple wrote:Easier to start fires than to put them out.mistermack wrote:That's crazy.
