Is there a legit challenge to the Big Bang Theory in this?

Empty space cannot exist. That is the argument. Not only can something come from nothing, it must come from nothing. Nature not only abhors a vacuum, it will not suffer a vacuum to live!

A (theoretical) total vacuum - containing no matter and no energy is referred to as a QED vacuum. Here's what wiki (quoting quantum theory) has to say about it...
QED vacuum has interesting and complex properties. In QED vacuum, the electric and magnetic fields have zero average values, but their variances are not zero.[18] As a result, QED vacuum contains vacuum fluctuations (virtual particles that hop into and out of existence), and a finite energy called vacuum energy. Vacuum fluctuations are an essential and ubiquitous part of quantum field theory. Some experimentally verified effects of vacuum fluctuations include spontaneous emission, the Casimir effect and the Lamb shift.[19] Coulomb's law and the electric potential in vacuum near an electric charge are modified.

Thanks for all the input, peeps. From what I've read so far, I'm not surprised that research into that isn't getting funded.

Yeah, I was kind of hinting at quantum field theory. I've 'been' at loads of lectures but that was years ago. Now I write like a mental amputee. O_o

The guys that signed it come across as a bit cranky, paranoid and into conspiracy theories...

Who doesn't love a good conspiracy theory?

Not even a conspiracy to a bloodless coup? The working out the intracies.. it's like the feeling you get when you worked really hard to solve a complex equation.

Anywho, the quantum field theory is very nice, but doesn't bridge the gap to a sentient bridge [something 'you' could use to manipulate the quantum field as you choose]. There is no such theory, at least that I know of. Hypotheses by the score though.
