The original is too "dated" for them, they need to grab the younger audience with more gore and better FX.
Plus, they don't have to pay writers to remake a script.

Well, they will pay royalties to the original authors, unless they own the copyrights outright, which is highly likely.
And I suppose they'll have to pay to "update" the script, but a rewrite is way cheaper than an original screenplay.

I am a bit intrigued by the choice of director for this Carrie, though. She di Boys Don't Cry, which was brilliant and horrifying, and has a lot of parallels with this story.
Although the casting for the character Carrie is a bit whackadoo, imo. Yes, let's choose this conventionally gorgeous, well-dressed young woman. People always shun those.
