No, I think slasher flicks are movies for guys who want to penetrate angst-filled virgins.

Seabass wrote:I just don't scare anymore, unfortunately. In fact, the only movie that ever scared me was The Blob. I know, I know, The Blob was ridiculous, but I was maybe 5yo at the time, give or take. That fucking Blob scared me so badly that I covered my head with my blanket for weeks afterward when in bed with the lights out. As if a blanket would stop the Blob from devouring me...

But shortly after that, I guess I just got to that age when scary things ceased to frighten me.

That's not to say I don't like any horror movies though; the good ones always have more to offer.
Yeah. I love horror movies but few scare me, hence "Blue Velvet."

I mean, Travis Bickle and the denizens of Taxi Driver also make it uncomfortable watching for me. Michael Mann's Version of Red Dragon, "Manhunter" is another one that chills me. So it's not necessarily genre Horror Movies.

"Come and See" and "Salo" still give me flashbacks after all these years.

When I was a child I was scared of scary movies without having to even watch them. The talk of even considering putting on some movies was enough to make me flee the room. Hell even the song Thriller coming onto the radio (long before I even saw the vid) would make me scream the place down 'til someone turned it off.

I think I got it all out of me as a child. Movies just don't really scare me. Though I am fearful of watching movies by M. Night Shyamalan.

The mirror scene. That first glimpse of what the guy is seeing in the mirror that his wife doesn't see. Nothing gory, or even particularly scary about anything you see. Nothing. What you actually see is perfectly normal. But the timing of it, the unexpectedness of it, is perfect and chilling.
Oh my god yes. That is a masterpiece.

Robert Mitchum in Night of the Hunter. One of the creepiest films ever. Probably THE creepiest when I first saw it aged about 9. It still stands up though.

The leg-breaking scene in Misery. No supernatural bollocks, just good, old-fashioned insane human cruelty at its worst.
This is what I always find deeply unsettling in films, when characters are believably (yet unbelievably to our own internal sensibilities) cruel and horrible. That's worse than any gross-out special effect crap (which I don't care for either).

They're remaking Carrie.

Knowing Hollywood these days they'll give it a happy ending

The MGM and Screen Gems co-production resets the story, originally released almost 40 years ago, to touch upon the social issues of cyber bullying in order to capture the interest of the smartphone generation. Jonathan Glickman, president of motion picture group at MGM, said it was important to cast young actors and use modern technology to appeal to a fresh new audience.

I guess now the infamous shower scene will be filmed on an i-Phone and posted on the webz for this iteration.
