Oblivion is underrated and ahead of its time. Couldn't figure the ending out as I was on the fourth glass of red by that point. Good movie.

World's End. I didn't even realize there was another Simon Pegg/Nick Frost/Edgar Wright film coming out, but here it is. The critics are nearly unanimous in their effusive praise, and yet this one fell kinda flat for me. Despite a great cast and the usual chemistry between Pegg and Frost, just not all that funny. And the ending was lame. Still worth seeing, yet hard to muster much enthusiasm for it.

From Hell. (2001) by the Hughes brothers.
A take on the Jack The Ripper mystery starring Johnny Depp and several other familiar faces.
I rather enjoyed it and would have given it a better review than it has on Rotten Tomatos.

Fuck yeah! Loved that one. Fantastic comic by Alan Moore/Eddie Campbell that it was based on, too.JacksSmirkingRevenge wrote:From Hell. (2001) by the Hughes brothers.

Good Vibrations - the story of a chap opening a record shop in Belfast at the height of the Troubles. A bit uneven and a slight enough tale but if the bit where Teenage Kicks kicks in doesn't have you grinning, you are probably dead.

The Millenium series. Finally got all through the long Swedish TV film version (9 hours) of Stieg Larssons trilogy, (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo...). Kept me almost as spellbound as the books did. Have to say that having read the books probably made it a lot easier to follow the plot, though.

Louis Malle's Murmur of the Heart. Funny but kinda pervy. Felt a little uncomfortable watching it. Reminded me of the shit I write, though of course this was more clever.

Red Baron looked better on the 50" but is was on Youtube. Good straightforward anti-war movie. Not convinced by the swarming plane animations but they looked OK on the ground.

Re: More good movies we've seen.
Fallen, with Denzel Washington, only it wasn't a good movie. Great cast of fine actors trying their best with awful dialogue, poor script, and shitty direction. It's a crime drama/supernatural thriller, but it's neither dramatic nor thrilling. It's dead boring is what it was.

I watched Hitchcock in silence with subtitles. Neat fact: That was originally how Hitch wanted to film the infamous shower scene in Psycho.
The movie was middling.

Danny Boyle's The Beach. Not quite sure what to make of it. It wasn't bad by any means, but I'm not sure I can generate much enthusiasm for it

I liked the music from that movie. Boyle does have one of the best soundtracks for movies, though.
That movie was either ahead of its time or not even in the time continuum.
