Been there, done that. I'm feeling acerbic today. And I'm intensely enjoying pointing out the rank hypocrisy of a socialist complaining about pure unadulterated democratic decision-making that just happens to gore his ox.

Poor Seth.

After all this time he hasn't realised that I'm not a socialist either.

So much for his self-assessed brilliance at argument.
And yet you cannot rebut the argument, just like a socialist, you can only attack the individual, which is a hallmark of Marxist ideology.

Quack quack!

Well, ad-hominem is certainly a fallacy.

I recall that you recently have explained how you've decided that you'll be taking your full entitlements from the state - and why not? You earned them. It was part of the deal in return for your efforts, regardless of the facts of how it is funded.

Similarly, I pay taxes from my wages. As a capitalist, I expect to get value for money. A fundamental constitutional duty of this state is to provide general education for Irish children paid for out of our taxation. This is, in effect, a contract. We, the people delegate authority to the state to collect funds and spend them on education in accordance with our constitution.

I have worked, earned my money, and upheld my end of the bargain. The state is reneging on its side. Just as you rail about gun control, I rail about this.

This is not a socialist position. I have already paid for the education of my children several times over. Why should I not expect the state to uphold its side of the bargain? Why should I have to pay again to secure their education? (I would, by the way, if I were forced to - of course).

It doesn't matter what your views on gun ownership are. The fact is that you have no right to keep and bear arms, and you have no arms, and therefore you are a slave of the state, whether you like it or not.

Now, perhaps you're a member of the IRA with a dozen AKs and some Semtex stashed away in the basement, in which case it makes no difference either because the fact remains that your government has divested you of your rights and turned you into a criminal slave and you have allowed it to do so.

Facts speak much louder than opinions I'm afraid.

Perhaps Seth. But your previous rant assumed that I was an advocate for gun control in the USA where the government is trying to impose gun control in breach of your constitution, and it took the gloating view that I therefore was hypocritical to.complain about my own government breaching our constitution.
Not so. My poke at your hypocrisy only used gun control in the US as an example.

The point I was acerbically making is that it sucks when majoritarian tyranny of any sort allows a society to violate its fundamental laws. In this particular case it's about the majoritarian tyranny of Catholicism violating the Irish Constitution by making it impossible for an atheist such as yourself from educating your children free of religious indoctrination. In my particular case it's majoritarian tyranny trying to violate the US Constitution by infringing on my RKBA.

The complaint is a generalized one about the evils of majoritarianism (socialism or "democracy") and its tendency to marginalize and ignore the minorities on the premise that their interests must be subservient to those of the majority.

I used the firearms metaphor because I don't recall you being a strong supporter of gun rights or individualism. Perhaps I'm wrong in that, but I plead majoritarianism in this forum. You don't stand out to me as being notably anti-socialistic and pro-individualism. That may be a mistake on my part and I apologize if I've mischaracterized your political leanings.

My comment was not intended to apply specifically to YOU, you see...it was a generalized rant against the evils of socialism and the inherent hypocrisy of socialists who complain about being marginalized by the majority but who have no compunctions against marginalizing anyone they don't happen to agree with.

Forgive me if I was unclear about the purpose of the post or misremember your political beliefs.

Well, thanks for making that clear, and I agree.

Then again, being unfamiliar with the Irish Constitution I can't really say whether your demand for a secular educational environment is actual just or not. Can you cite some sources supporting your claim?
