That Nez song, Papa Gene's Blues, is still one of my favourites; a perfect little pop song.

More Monkees trivia. I'm hearing the album for the first time:

Headquarters was the third album issued by the Monkees and the first with substantial songwriting and instrumental performances by members of the group itself, rather than by session musicians and professional songwriters. After a struggle for creative autonomy with their record label, the group had been allowed to record by themselves. Headquarters reached No.1 on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified double platinum in the U.S. with sales of more than two million copies within the first two months of release. As of 2008 it has sold seven million copies in the United States and achieved global sales of 11.6 million. It is included in the 2006 book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.

Has anyone done a list yet of the 1001 books that are each about 1001 things that you must do before you die? :what:

I had the 1001 albums book. Of course, I had maybe 50 albums in there and played 10. I had no plan to get even 100 listed. I agreed with maybe 200. And the guy liked the same things in the albums I liked. He liked other stuff in albums I hated.

There's a warning in there somewhere about all these music "recommendations" that plague one on the Internet. :sulk:

Just fucking listen to the Monkees, I've got everything from a original vinyl of The Monkees through to a CD of "Head", They're great but were tighter with a little Tork.

That is all.

What can I say, good music is good music. Though some of those Davy Jones songs are Ringoesque.

Have now played all the 5 Monkees discs in the box. I got it for $14. Some are OK to play as whole. But then I had to go pick some gems for my Monkees iPod list. You Told Me etc. So now it's hits, 20, plus 5 gems. I play the iPod here and there, but this is good stuff just to drive with. entertaining but not requiring too much brain power.
