Fallacies

Post by Lozzer » Tue Jul 07, 2009 3:09 pm

What kind of fallacy is 'go moan somewhere else' or 'go get a life'? It keeps appearing whenever I make a legitimate argument to the apathetic or to the opposition. Surely its fallacious?

Hmmmm.."Get a life" could be classed as a Red Herring, as it is designed to lead the argument away from what is being discussed to the irrelevancy of your supposed lack of life.

I'd say probably ad hominem as well. Seeking to attack the argument by devaluing the maker of the argument.

I always get it, I really do. It makes me want to withdraw and reconsider my position lol.

Just ask how your life is relevant. Something like, "You may be right. Perhaps I don't have a life. However, I do have an argument that you still have been unable to counter. I'm waiting for a response"
