When you get right down to it...

It just occurred to me that all T.V. and movies are the same thing, in essence. We really really like to watch others reacting to things. How they react and to what is merely a matter of taste.

I think I agree, although I often think that there are not many movies and TV shows about the mundanity of everyday life. Most people I know live day to day- work/kids etc and as someone who has done a bit of acting I think if someone was to film me as me living my life, well, not much would be going on essentially. I think we look to movies and Tv to see people's reactions but in an exaggerated and bigger than life way.

Well I'm sure if you had 500 hours or so of footage of your life a talented editor could make it seem larger than life. In a lot of cases of drama that is exactly all it is, a slice of life taken out of context and used because of it's familiarity and sense of conflict. I meant thought that really there is no difference between Shrieking Hagwives of Faketania and Ken Loach's The Existential Angst of the Peasant Class. No difference between live news items and Teen Vampire Romance. It's all just us watching other peoples reactions.

It's really quite a weird activity.

Sports, documentaries, news, cooking shows. dum-ass comedic self injury shows, chat shows are all reality T.V. shows. However all a "reality" T.V. show means is that those involved's reactions are real, not the pseudo-events constructed.
