It just gets more amazing, day after day..... http://rt.com/news/intelligence-officia ... eaker-452/
Now, intelligence officials have been reported as "joking" that Mr. Snowden and the journalist who published stories about the NSA issue should be "disappeared."

I was talking to some gun nuts elsewhere. The phone and e mail should be stopped immediately. Since the Gubment then wont find even one terrorist in the US (I guess NSA does not know how to hack), it will require all citizens to carry guns at all times. I propose they have special terrorist visa when they come in, and we install pink wrist band monitors on them.

You have to admit, rEvolutionist is being consistent on this, though.Coito ergo sum wrote:Someone save Tero's (and others') posts about this for the next time there is GOP President. They monitor communications on a 20 million budget for 300 million americans. How many phone calls of yours do you think have been tracked?
Of course he probably couldn't care less about U.S. political parties.

So, is the UK government getting data dumps from the NSA a violation of UK citizen's rights? After all, it's not MI6 that's collecting the data, they are just getting it from the US, which has no proscriptions on bugging OTHER nation's communications.Clinton Huxley wrote:GCHQ has been dipping into that lovely, sticky pot of NSA honey but it's ok, the PM and the Foreign Secretary have said everything is above board. This is from the Guardian and sums up the issues, as far as we know them, succintly.Seth wrote:So, is the UK government getting data dumps from the NSA a violation of UK citizen's rights? Matthew Ryder QC said: "It is not the breaking of laws that is most troubling in this area, but the absence of them. Foreigners storing their personal data on US servers have neither the protection that their own domestic laws would give them from their own governments, nor the protection that US citizens have from the US government. It is foreigners, potentially UK citizens in the UK, who are the targets of programmes like Prism.
"Once such data is in the hands of the US authorities, there is no clear legal framework that prevents it from being shared with UK authorities. The Security Service Act 1989 and the Intelligence Services Act 1994 place MI5, MI6 and GCHQ on a statutory basis, and permit those bodies to receive any information from foreign agencies in the 'proper discharge' of their statutory functions.
"Under that broad principle, UK agencies may receive and examine data from the US about UK citizens without having to comply with any of the legal requirements they would have to meet if the same agencies had tried to gather that information themselves."

Only, the program only analyzes for terrorism and security items. That is what they would share. It's not going to share you secret cookie recipe or porn.

Of course, they would never do that.... that would be like, say....using the IRS to go after tax exempt groups that lean the wrong way politically...never happen.
