Re: The Hobbit will be Three Films, not Two
I just read that Sean Connery was originally asked if he wanted to play Gandalf, and the makers of the LOTR were so hot on him playing Gandalf that they offered him 15% of the box office receipts Sean Connery rejected the deal, stating that he could not understand the script.
Re: The Hobbit will be Three Films, not Two
Sean is getting old.. and Ian McKellan did an amazing job. I don't think Sean Connery could have pulled off the epic 'You shall not pass!' line.

Really? Where was the talking purse then?Gawdzilla Sama wrote:The troll sequence was spot on.

FTR I loved the film. I thought the deviations from the book almost always added to the dramatic tension without butchering the original storyline. But I did find it funny that you chose to praise one of those deviations as being spot on!

A book is a version of the world. If you do not like it, ignore it; or offer your own version in return.

Re: The Hobbit will be Three Films, not Two
The Hobbit was a great movie, I thought. I loved how in the beginning they linked up scenes from the LOTR, like when Frodo was off to meet Gandalf along the road. Very cool.
I did not like what they did with Radagast, though. He wasn't in the Hobbit, IIRC -- I don't mind them including Radagast, per se, but I thought the rabbit sleigh was corny, and I don't think Radagast was supposed to be such a nutter.
I think Radagast's presence in the first Hobbit presages his involvement in the third movie, which as I understand it involves the time between the end of the Hobbit and the beginning of the LOTR.
Overall a great job, though, and I am psyched to see movie 2.

I liked it too, after deciding not to worry about the differences to the book...

I'm not goung to mince words. Connery would've been a shite Gandalf. He can only ever play Connery and even not that well.

It was shit, it'ss one of those deviations that I want the writer crucified... others (like bypassing Tom Bombadil by having the magic swords be Elven gifts, and making the recapture of the Shire moot by killing off Saruman) were rather nicely handled, but that one was a butchery that should have ended in pureed Frodo.Gawdzilla Sama wrote:I meant I liked it.
