Your favourite beginnings.

Unlike most people, I am not that much of a fan of Pink Floyd. Don't get me wrong I think their music is fine, some genius, some exhausting, especially Animals, The Wall and The Final Cut (can we just leave it there, not mention the last things under that brand name?) However this is not about Pink Floyd as much as it is about the Opening of "The Dark Side of the
Moon" which is a tremendous way to open an album, perhaps even one of the best, but it's not my favourite. My friend insists his is the first 20 seconds of "Good Times Bad Times" by Led Zep, and I can see why. I have another friend who even disliking the band and that oeuvre claims his favourite is the beginning of "Definitely Maybe." So it's clear impressive beginnings are not always those of your favourite bands.

Mine however is, it has to be the first minute of this.



So what's yours? Is is a favoured song by a favoured band, is it something that blows you away only to be left disappointed with the rest of the album? Is such an "opener" even a relevant concept these days?

As a general rule, I like hard/heavy rock songs that start with an extended riff/instrumental part. Can't think of any off hand at them moment. But I like it when a song starts rocking straight away and the lyrics hold off for a while.

I love the start of this song just for when the drums kick in. Make sure everything is securely nailed down.
