And no. I am not a supporter of totalitarian control, and never have been. My political philosophy is about balance and avoiding extreme views, plus focussing on facts.
That is why I have not argued for any total gun bans. Just for a ban on the sector that causes the greatest harm, meaning hand guns.

No, Seth.
Hand guns confer no benefit at all, except to give a sick thrill to all those people indulging in their "Dirty Harry" fantasy.

Re: The case against guns
Actually, I have held a handgun. An illegal one, which was loaded at the time. To my extreme chagrin, I was filled with a sense of power, knowing I could point and kill.
I have used other firearms to hunt, including a .22 rifle on rabbits, shotgun for ducks, and .303 for targets. I have no fear of firearms, but I respect their power, and I fear hand guns in possession of irresponsible and callous people, which is probably a third of the human species. This fear is shown to be appropriate by the 8, 000 hand gun murders each year in the USA.

Well...that certainly qualifies you as an expert on handguns doesn't it?Blind groper wrote:Actually, I have held a handgun. An illegal one, which was loaded at the time. To my extreme chagrin, I was filled with a sense of power, knowing I could point and kill.

Yeah, makes a lot of sense to ban 100 million handguns because 8000 of them are misused. How about we ban Chevrolet's instead? That would make much more sense.I have used other firearms to hunt, including a .22 rifle on rabbits, shotgun for ducks, and .303 for targets. You still refuse to address the most basic refutation of your dogma, which is that the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for each and every individual person, particularly the right to life, is an absolute right for each person and no amount of bad behavior on the part of others (even 8000 of them) justifies infringing on the right of each and every individual to keep and bear arms, including specifically handguns, for the purposes of personal protection. The 8000 murderers don't get to set public policy for the other 399,992,000 citizens of this country.
You never, ever acknowledge this aspect of the argument and you never ever justify why 8000 bad actors should control everyone else's access to handguns.
Care to give it a go?

So, you're a small... small, pussy of a "man," who when he holds a pistol feels, "filled with a sense of power, knowing I could point and kill."Blind groper wrote:Actually, I have held a handgun. Do you have any idea how pathological that sounds? Do you have any idea how immature that sounds?
You're fucking disgusting.
You're exactly the kind of person who shouldn't be allowed to own a firearm.
You think that because that's how a firearm makes you feel; that it is also how it makes other people feel too. But, guess what? That's incorrect. I don't feel all powerful just because I'm holding a firearm.
That's your ego talking when you say that. And someone who says what you just did, is the kind of person who would actually shoot someone. Because it makes you feel powerful. A normal person doesn't feel "powerful" when they hold a gun.
You know why not? Because a normal person isn't going to shoot anyone, and they know it, so they don't feel "powerful" because they don't need to. And especially unlike you, their ego isn't telling them they should feel powerful.
You're revealing your psychopathology the more and more you post.
It makes perfect sense why you want guns banned, and it has nothing to do with stats, and EVERYTHING to do with how you "feel" about guns, especially when you hold one yourself. You don't trust yourself with what you would do with a gun. So, of course you're not going to trust anyone else. Trust issues. More psychopathology.
Thanks for revealing that for everyone.

Anyone who calls someone a pussy shouldn't be let near a firearm (or anything else). It's the whole being a real man bollocks we don't need in society anymore and haven't needed since we stopped hunting. So, you're a small... small, pussy of a "man," who when he holds a pistol feels
Muscles beyond those you need to type, walk and speak aren't needed much any more, the brain is used instead

It's fundamental to the whole debate, there is a specific view of masculinity that these people are taught from birth that is simply obsolete. The man as hunter/protector/warrior/head of the family is just extremely dated and belongs in another era. We learn this as kids and generally grow out of it Those sort of aggressive attitudes are directed to sport/computer games or even competition in the workplaceSvartalf wrote:Don't feed the troll.MrJonno wrote:Anyone who calls someone a pussy shouldn't be let near a firearm (or anything else). Yeah, these days the women get into the act too. Mrs. Lak is a pretty good shot with her Sig .380 and can handle the .223 out to about 50 yards, but doesn't like the recoil on a 12 gauge. She doesn't hunt (though she'll chow down on the venison), but she does like to fish. I wouldn't exactly call her the head of the household, but I best not do anything without checking with her first. As for being a "warrior", just mess with her dogs or step-kids and see what happens.MrJonno wrote: It's fundamental to the whole debate, there is a specific view of masculinity that these people are taught from birth that is simply obsolete. Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Re: The case against guns
Well never got the impression of you that you had firearms in case you might need to shoot people , doesn't reduce your danger to the public to zero but I would feel safer around you than some gun nuts could mention (however pot and firearms don't mix)laklak wrote:Yeah, these days the women get into the act too.
