Seen these CDs identical as ones for a fiver or tenner except they are Japanese and for a reason I've not worked out they retail for hundreds or thousands? Is this a scam? Are drugs cartels using them as a means to settle business? Can't figure this at all. I'd like your opinion?

We can only tell you why when you've ordered one.

The "Import" tag on a CD is just a licence to print money, but that's plain ridiculous.

That`d be a piss-poor way to launder money. I would think. It would probably raise some red flags.

We should probably move this thread to a private part of the forum so the mob don't come after us.
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]

Normal Japanese in print CDs may go for 2x UK price. They reprint an oud print CD. I have several. Smaller lot, usually collectors only.
The expensive item of the OP is probably rare. This happens when
1 LP never released in CD except Japan
2 CD small lot
3 used copies 98% in Japan, most in land fill by now

Most major album releases have a special Japanese edition. This normally has 1 or 2 extra tracks - something historically insisted upon by Japanese record companies in order to discourage their customers from seeking import copies which are usually cheaper and available sooner. The bonus tracks are often just remixes or live versions of existing tracks - however, many bands released tracks which are unavailable elsewhere except on Jap imports. These days, with the advent of music downloads, this practice is a lot rarer than it once was but it still goes on.

Makes sense for a reasonable increase of maybe double or treble the normal pricing but what kind of freak is gonna pay a hundred times markup for a couple of tracks?

The reason is what I posted earlier.
The same reason that seller is offering a kid's book for a thousand quid.

Typically the really expensive items are autographed.

I only have one signed CD. I'm waiting for the singer to die so I can sell it.
