Yeah, it probably is psychobabble, but it is really, really credible psychobabble.
A gun is penis shaped, and squirts out the end, and penetrates the other person. Hey!
Add to that the obviously inadequate personalities who end up taking their guns to bed, and it all makes sense.
A person who buys and uses a gun for legitimate purposes, such as hunting to put meat on the table, or a farmer who needs to eliminate pests, will be a person who is probably of sound mind.
But those people who buy and own guns purely out of a love for a toy that kills people...........

As I said, it is probably psychobabble. But it correctly identifies extreme gun lovers as being the wrong side of the line separating sane and not so sane.

Re: Guns used for lawful self defense Pt. 4
In the hands of criminals and idiots, no question. But there are 300 million people in the US, so even 100,000 people is a very tiny fraction of the population and infringing on the rights of the other 299,900,000 on the premise that 0.0003% of them are wounded and 0.00002% of them are killed (many of those are criminals getting killed by other criminals by the way) is asinine and ridiculous.Blind groper wrote:Seth
In spite of your statement that most confrontations do not involve a shooting, there are 8,000 hand gun murders each year in the USA, plus 100,000 people who get a bullet through part of their anatomy. These facts demonstrate clearly that those guns you love do enormous harm.
Justifiably or criminally. I'd agree that there are a "hell of a lot" of people who discharge their lawfully-carried firearms in a lawful manner for self defense and sometimes they kill their assailant(s). But that's a good thing.Maybe there are some people who use guns in self defense purely for threat. But there are a hell of a lot of gun owners who shoot and kill.
And criminal shootings don't count at all because they are, well, criminal shootings which cannot be prevented by taking guns away from law-abiding citizens.
Not only that, but you and Gallstones have used these threads to express your support for the despicable murderers who shoot and kill when there is no need to.
That's your opinion. The opinion of the law enforcement and judicial officials involved is different. Whom should we believe? The law enforcement and judicial professionals whose job it is to know and apply the law to such shootings or some bloviating pundit from another country who doesn't know shit from Shinola when it comes to the gun debate? I'm gonna go with the professionals.
That last example of a guy who went into another man's garage to confront him with the fact that he had been bonking his wife - did so unarmed, and did not attack the guy physically.
You don't know that. The report said there was a "confrontation" but did not include more details. Evidently, the professionals who looked at ALL the evidence, and then applied the law, disagree with you. No big surprise there.
Here's a piece of good advice: If you visit the US, don't go barging into someone else's home in an agitated manner without an invitation because you're likely to get shot in many states, and the homeowner will not have violated the law.Yet the man whom was confronted went and got a gun and shot down the unarmed man. That was a despicable murder, and that guy should be in prison for life - not supported by fellow gun nutters. You and Gallstones should be deeply ashamed of supporting the actions of an asshole like that.
Around here we take the sanctity and security of our homes very, very seriously.
If you don't like it, cram your opinions up your ass sideways and stay the hell out of our country and its politics.

I'd rather live here, own a (lot of) guns and deal with intruders myself, thanks.rainbow wrote:Absolutely.Seth wrote: It's easy to talk when you haven't had your home invaded.
This hardly ever happens in civilised countries. Why don't you move to one?
By the way, this weekend I'm in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the Wanamaker's Gun Show, which is probably the largest gun show in the US.
Held in the Expo center, there are 3700 tables, and according to the organizers, if you lined them all up in a line, they would be five miles long. Which means I walked at least 5 miles today, and will probably walk 10 or more tomorrow and another 5 on Sunday. Great exercise. I've got my Garmin exercise watch so I'll keep track of mileage. I did 16 miles at SHOT show.
Tens of thousands of guns of every possible description (heavy on the collector's items like Single Action Colt Peacemakers and Winchester lever-action rifles by the thousands, (the real, antique deal) millions of rounds of ammunition and (estimated) 60,000 attendees for the weekend and never once has anyone ever been shot at the show. Go figure.
Today was setup day and THE best time to be there. Setup day is where all the dealers and exhibitors wheel and deal at wholesale prices with one another. I scored (so far) two U.S. Optics rifle scopes, a 3.2-17x45 with illuminated MDMOA reticle and EREK 1/4 MOA elevation knob and a 3.8-22x54 with illuminated MDMOA reticle and EREK 1/4 MOA elevation knob. Both scopes for $4000, which is a deal considering list is $3000+ and dealers only get a 20% discount.
I've got my eye on another Barrett M107A1CQ (shorter barrel) .50 BMG semi-automatic rifle if I can get it for a good price and various accessories and ammunition.
Oklahoma is a "gun show loophole" state proudly and by design...no federal paperwork or background checks for private sales, although licensed dealers still have to do the Form 4473.
And the Barrett is from a private collection, so it'll be "off paper" if I decide to buy it, which is becoming increasingly important these days.
What a proud example of liberty this show is.
And still nobody gets shot.

Liar. I never said "never." I said "hardly ever" or "extremely rarely" which is proven by the numbers of CCW license revocations in the various states, which is an extremely small percentage. You can look them up if you want, but when the anti-gun people at Handgun Control tried they found something like 164 incidences of permitted persons committing crimes (of any kind) with their weapons...out of millions upon millions of permitees.Blind groper wrote:To Gawdzilla
