Like all religions it makes perfect sense once you accept certain completely arbitrary and unproven assertions as axiomatic premises. Then there is no problem proceeding perfectly logically to an absolutely absurd conclusion. :smoke:
You just have to want to do it.
Interesting practical joke.

Get a Bible and go through it and highlight all the sex and violence with a yellow highlighter, and then offer it as a gift to a religious friend or family member. Tell them "hey - here is this Bible I had. Now that I'm an atheist, I don't need it." Then see if they go through it and watch their reaction.

Or, if you don't have a bible handy (I certainly don't), point them to here: http://skepticsannotatedbible.com/

Yeah, but they won't read that thing -- they won't trust the site.

bibles are easy to come by. steal one from a hotel room or something.

I may get a few copies - some churches will give out bibles -- and go through and highlight all the murder, genocide, polygamy, and sexy talk (song of Solomon) and then start passing them out.

I'll call it the Coito Bible, like the Jefferson Bible, only I'll highlight all the naughty bits.

Start with the entire Song of Solomon, which is absolutely filthy. :mob:

If Jesus spent the two days as a guest of Satan, in hell, it wasn't as a bodily human.
Otherwise, he would have been well and truly cooked, and not a pretty sight, when they rolled away the stone.

So spending time in hell, as a spirit, isn't necessarily painful, as pain is a bodily experience.
I've never really got how souls are supposed to suffer in hell, when they have no nerve endings.

Nor brains, come to think of it.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

Again, Satan is not, according to the Bible, in hell. He's in heaven, when he's not roaming around the Earth, until the War in Heaven when he will be caste out.

You seem to assume that the suffering bit was necessary for the sacrifice. They don't torture the lamb when they sacrificed it old testament style.

I bought that album when it came out. The song itself is basically a rip off of Tam 'O Shanter (full disclosure I first typed Shatner :{D ) but it started my teenage love of Iron Maiden.
Killers though is probably their only album I could tolerate these days.

Bugger that... Given the kind of shit my life has been, in spite of all I prayed when I was young and deluded, you're better off without that kind of friend.

I never needed anyone to die to get me forgiveness for my sins.

Much to my chagrin, my sins are so damn trivial, that the only death required is a squashed ant.
There! Squashed it. I am now saved.
For every human action, there is a rationalisation and a reason. Only sometimes do they coincide.
