Errr... the war in Iraq was won, handily.
Errr... then why are you still occupying the country?
Well, the ability to occupy a country is a sign of a successful war, not an unsuccessful war.

And, we're not occupying their country, unless you consider an Embassy and some consulates, with about 17,000 total personal (mostly non-combat) in a country of 33 million people to be "occupying" the country. And, that was in 2011 -- we have fewer than that there now, and those that are there are there at the pleasure of the Iraqi government.

You said the war was "unwinnable." Ridiculous statement, actually. We so totally dominated Hussein's military in that war as to make it one of the most lopsided victories in history, and among the fastest take-downs of all time. The war was won. There was resistance from foreign insurgents and from Iraqi Baath party sympathizers in Iraq during the occupation phase, but the US won that too, with assistance from other coalition folks.

Unwinnable? There isn't a country in the world capable of doing what the US did in Iraq. That's not even reasonably debatable.
I didn't say it was "unwinnable" that was jaydot. The fact that you're still occupying the country (your dick is still in their ass, er I mean your army is still in their country) means you have won nothing. You have no exit strategy. You bunch of stupid oil-greedy cunts have got yourselves into a quagmire that, when you do finally pull out from, is going to prolapse and spew shit all over your dick.

Mixing metaphors for the win!

those that are there are there at the pleasure of the Iraqi government

This is the sort of backwards asshatted fucktardery I've come to expect from the NeoCons. The Iraqi government is there at the pleasure of your troops my myopic friend.

The whole thing about "winning" a war, and the consequences, is very interesting. It should be approached objectively, without ideological blinkers.

One needs to consider both the cost of winning, and the future ramifications...

WW1...

A clear win, except the vast number of casualties, and the punitive treaty of Versailles contributing to the genesis of WW2

WW2...

A clear win, but it included a huge number of civilian casualties (compared to previous wars, many via bombing campaigns)

And it lead directly to the iron curtain...

Do we really need to analyse the rather mixed blessings of the Korean and Vietnam conflicts?

Don't get me wrong - this is not an argument against war in any circumstances. Instead, it suggests that a realistic appraisal of wars should avoid a naive analysis of "won that one 100%"

Hmm making jokes about shooting people in a country filled with gun nuts who want to do just that. Any cartoons showing defenders of liberty shooting up the local marxist indoctrination centres (ie schools)?
