First records, and where you bought them
A recent article about the place where people bought their first record, prompted more than 1,800 readers to share their own stories about the music they bought, and the many different record shops they used to frequent.
The article recalled the thrill of making that first purchase. Browsing at the racks and deciding on the format - vinyl for the artwork, tape for convenience, CD if you were rich.
(continued)
Got me thinking back to my first LP I bought in '82 must be 86' though since it wasn't released till then....Dashiel Rae- Songs without Words, kinda ancient Eianuadi piano chillaxing music then I bought Jethro Tulls - Standup thus began my music collecting days.

Not completely sure of this. It was a long time ago.

U2 - War.
Yes, I confess, I was a U2 fan. Honestly, they weren't so bad in the beginning...

Even though I recorded lots of albums before this myself on cassette this is the first one I actually had to buy because none of my friends had it or even liked them*

I bought two albums in the one day. I was about ten and won a school prize for something (probably a week of not pissing off my teacher) which was some vouchers for HMV. I had a little box record player. Seems like someone else from an ancient time.

Re: Your First Album You Bought (with youtube clip?)
After as an early-teenager following pop like the Beatles, at the age of 16 I discovered the Dumfries Folk Club, discovered the music that got me right in the guts, and discovered that music is best live. So, although the first album I bought would be Beatles for Sale, I think, I'm actually choosing to put here (paradoxically) a recording from one of the guys I loved to hear live. I could've put Archie Fisher here, too, and Martin Carthy, and Planxty, and lots of others who were all sublime live, but here's Nic Jones, singing a story that took place near a river about ten miles from where I was born and grew up. I liked his version of Annachie Gordon even better, but I can't find it on Youtube.

A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

Re: Your First Album You Bought (with youtube clip?)
It was Sgt Pepper, but they only did the promo for a single off album, that ended on the next album
Re: Your First Album You Bought (with youtube clip?)
I was pirating music from the age of 9 or 10 (two tape stereo baby!
) so the first album I actually bought wasn't until I was young adult. I recall it clearly because the guy at HMV, or whatever it was, acted like a complete douche. I wanted to buy Linkin Park's album Hybrid Theory and asked the clerk if they had "Linkin Park's new album". Douche was all deriding and dismissive saying "Linkin Park only HAS ONE album".. probably still upset that Courtney Love got to fuck Kurt and he didn't.. he was also wrong.

First grown-up LP I bought was Blondie's Parallel Lines. Loved that record!
