For the women Juliette Binoche but she's not been very active of late followed closely by Streep.

Jennifer Lawrence is a big up and comer - hell two Oscar nods and a Golden Globe win last night at age 22. Winter Bone was no easy movie.

Kiera Knightly also a strong top actress generally always enjoyable.

Round it out with Daniel Day Lewis.
He and Binoche we amazing in Incredible lightness of Being and both have had stellar careers since.
Depp in almost in a class by himself these days tho George Clooney has done some very fine films as has Kevin Spacey.

Have to throw a nod to Maggie Smith - she is just an incredible actor and nice to see her honoured for Downton Abbey role.....
Helen Mirren I also enjoy.

I wonder why Depp doesn't win many awards? He was nominated for 3 Oscars, but he never won. Odd. I never understand the Oscars.

The Oscars are stupid. A very, very average film like Argo gets a nom for Best Picture while an original film like Killer Joe isn't even mentioned.

He was excellent as Secretary Seward in Lincoln. But Daniel Day-Lewis is likely a shoo-in to win an Oscar for his role.

If you benchmark people against Burton and Taylor in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, it's difficult to see who matches up.

Timothy Spall is a stand out guy for me. If you haven't seen Poliakoff's Shooting The Past then see it now.

Women, more difficult but Glenn Close has done an awful lot of outstanding work over a long period.
