Well, there is no way that a country can invade the US in any significant way without the US leveling it (even if that meant leveling some or all of the US at the time). If an army or Navy would get to our territory and mass hundreds of thousands of troops, and get into the the US, the US would quite simply have to pull out all the stops.

So, the only viable option is from within. But, it would seem that simply a gradual regulation and restriction on firearms would probably be more manageable than a deconstruction.

Apparently going down in a movie-esque, blaze of glory, hail of bullets, massacre-type way is the "thing to do" among psychotics and demented sociopaths. A study of this phenomenon I read a while ago noted that oftentimes these shooters have felt persecuted and/or neglected by society for much of their lives, so when they decide to commit suicide, they figure they might as well go out and become infamous at the same time.

I can't even fathom the notion that the elementary school child you kissed and put on the bus that morning is now dead at the hands of a psychotic gunman. I literally cannot put myself in that place and try to envision what the parents must be going through.

All I can think now is, how many more of these will we tolerate before we do something? Or are we going to allow such events to become "normal"?
