I attempted to get Red Celt to argue against Scottish independence by introducing arguments why Scotland has been subsumed by England rule and having him argue against me. I think I've done that. One more vote against Scottish independence.

Now off to do some work. :)

All the rest is so much stuff.

Do try harder.
So the defining factor of whether a country should be referenced by it's name or the name of the area with the largest land mass or largest population is decided upon the nationality of the head of state?

Y'know, when realising that you've been wrongly identifying the U.K. with the name of one of the countries of the U.K., you had two options: you could have learned from the information and acknowledged your error(s), or you could hurl out as much nonsense as possible in order to justify your error(s).

The world would be a much better place if more people could learn to take the tiniest hit to their self-esteem and recognise their mistakes, rather than hold onto them as passionately as possible.

Call me an idealist.

Who is the King of Ireland?

Brian?

Or is it Elizabeth, just not recognised?

Slippery Salmond has said Elizabeth can remain monarch after succession, so it would still be the United Queendom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Ireland and Commonwealth and Guernsey and Jersey and Man and BOTs.

That has already happened. Offa's Dyke.
It ought to be pointed out that the Kings of Mercia were as often in allience with various Welsh princes as they were at war with them. The Mercians would use the Welsh as back-up in their squabbles with the other English Kingdoms, and the Welsh princes would in turn use Mercia as back-up in their squabbles with other Welsh princes.

 Nah. I don't mind admitting when I'm wrong. I wasn't. But I made you argue against the position you supposedly hold without you realizing it. Make of that what you will.

I'm sure some of them do. Regardless of that, the English don't call themselves 'Londoners' unless they live in London.
