Best Band of the (very late) 80s and 90s?

Post by Jason » Wed Oct 31, 2012 5:46 am

I nominate :drumroll:

The Smashing Pumpkins.

Yeah Billy Corgan is an asshole. Yeah D'arcy is off her nut. No one knows what the hell is up with that Asian dude. But no one drums like Jimmy Chamberlain and the experimental harmonies and mixology (yeah I just made that word up) in their music was beyond ground breaking in a time when it was all raw-sounding Nirvana and clones (Soundgarden etc.). Yeah they were playing to a generation of self-disenfranchised youths but they did it with style damnit! :lay:

Right now I am listening to Screaming Trees. One of my biggest favourites of that time. But I was also a fan of Smashing Pumpkins, Sound Garden and Alice in Chains. Also Faith No More.

Yeah, not sure what's up with that. Pretty sure soundgarden were around before nirvana and smashing pumpkins.

These guys were always a bit pop for me (they got famous in about 83), but after a drink or two I always liked their more traditional stuff.

Which is probably why she went unnoticed among a crowd of Christians.

I did not get Machina

I liked Corgan's whiny voice, same as Tom in Blink 182.
